HP Envy Photosmart 7855
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I try to print a document, I receive a message that says my printer is in an error state. When I check my installed app, it says that my printer is ready. I can get it to work sometimes by opening and closing my paper drawer or by turning off the printer for a while. I would like to solve this problem as I do not have time to mess with it! I have only had the printer for about a month. Thank you.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I understand that you keep getting an error that the Printer is in error state

I'll try my best to help.

Let's start with a Printer Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Next download the Print And Scan Doctor from this Download link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

  1. Run PSDR v5.0.2

  2. Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.

  3. Select the correct Printer and click on Next.

  4. PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing

  5. Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.

  6. Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”

  7. PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.

  8. Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue.  If no issue found close PSDR.

If the issue persists, try assigning a Manual IP Address

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer (which can found by pressing the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel) .

  • Enter the IP address on the web browser (Ex: chrome, IE) to enter the printer EWS page.

  • Go to the “Network” tab, click on “Wireless (802.11) then click on “Network address (IPV4)

  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.

  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

You can also try downloading the Firmware from this Link: https://hp.care/2K8RPgW

Keep me posted how it goes and if you need further assistance

Thank you 🙂

HP ENVY PHOTO 7855 printer was in error state. How to fix?

Unplug the cord from the back of the printer as well as wall.

Wait for 60 seconds.

PLug  the cord back in.

Wait until the flashing lights on your printer stabilizes.
