HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have the HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One - just purchased it, installed it and it is printing great. Except for the auto duplex printing. I select it from the pull down menu under my printing settings, select longside binding and print and it still prints two pages.  Went to system preferences to make the change permanent under the options, and I don't have that choice there. Not sure what to do but need to get this fixed.

Thanks for your feedback. First ensure the printer hardware is working by doing copy in duplex. Go to printer control panel, select two sided copy and check whether it works. if it doesn't, then open the scan bed of printer and ensure the duplexer is intact inside. if above is alright, try printing from your PC using below steps. . From the File menu in your software, choose Print. 2. In the Print dialog, choose Layout from the pop-up menu. 3. Choose the type of binding you want for your two-sided pages, and then click Print.
Click on the "Thumbs up"button on the bottom to say "Thanks"

I was able to copy in duplex. However, when I select the two-side print dialog box from Microsoft or from a webpage or a pdf file, even selecting both styles of binding, it prints on two separate pages.

But that isn't automatic duplex printing. That is manually doing it - my printer is supposed to do it automaticlly which I am trying to figure out.

Hello,

If your printer supports automatic duplexing or you installed a duplexer accessory, confirm the feature is configured on the Mac and set up the print job.
Step 1: Confirm the correct print driver is used
If your printer uses the AirPrint driver, automatic duplexing does not work. Make sure the correct driver that supports automatic duplexing is used.
  1. Turn on the printer and make sure it connects to the Mac with a USB cable or over a local network.
  2. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences, click Printers & Scanners, then click your printer name in the Printers list.
  3. Locate your printer name next to Kind in the right pane.

    • If AirPrint is not in the name, you are using the HP driver. Continue to the next step.
    • If AirPrint is in the name, re-add the printer using the HP driver.
Click the minus sign at the bottom of the Printers pane to remove the printer, click the plus sign , click the name of your printer in the Add window, click the Use menu and select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu, then click Add. Continue to the next step.

Step 2: Configure the automatic duplexer in the HP software
Activate the duplexing accessory on the Mac before starting the print job.
  1. Select your printer in the Printers list, then click Options & Supplies.

Click Options & Supplies in the Printers & Scanners window
  2. Click Options, then select the check box next to HP Two-sided Printing Accessory (Duplexer).
     NOTE:
If a duplexer does not display, your printer does not support automatic duplexing. Use the manual duplexing steps in this document to print.
Figure : Select the duplexer in the Options menu
Select the duplexer in the Options menu
Step 3: Print the document
Change the print settings to automatically print on both sides of the page, and save your settings as a preset option for the next time you print.
  1. To avoid page ordering issues, load enough blank paper into the input tray to fully complete your print job. The printer prints the front side of the paper first. Load the paper with the top edge first and the print side facing down.
  2. Open the document that you want to print, click File, then click Print.
If no settings display, click Show Details.
  3. Select the name of your printer in the Printer menu.
  4. Click the box next to Two-Sided, then select Layout from the unnamed menu at the center of the window.
     NOTE:
If the Two-Sided option does not display, your printer does not support automatic duplexing. Use the manual duplexing steps in this document to print.

     NOTE:
If you want to keep these settings for future print jobs, click the Presets drop-down menu, select Save Current Settings as Preset, then name it.
  6. Click Print.
