My HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, my settings are locked, and the message I receive when trying to update wireless settings says "The feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer."  I have moved my printer to a different wireless router, and it won't connect, and the Wireless Setup Wizard is not accessible.  Appears have to "Reset to Factory Defaults" but I don't have the pin to continue as it has been locked.

Hi @Grg42,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're unable to access or update the wireless settings on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer because the feature has been locked, and you need to reset it to factory defaults, you can try the following steps.

Note: Performing a factory reset will erase all the current settings, including the wireless configuration.

Find the Reset Button:

  • Look for a small reset button on your printer. It's usually located on the back or the bottom of the printer.

Press and Hold the Reset Button:

  • With the printer turned on, press and hold the reset button using a paperclip or a similar tool.
  • Hold the button for about 5-10 seconds until you see the lights on the printer flash, indicating that the reset process is underway.

Wait for the Reset to Complete:

  • The printer will restart, and the reset process will take a minute or two.

Reconfigure the Printer:

  • Once the reset is complete, you'll need to set up your printer again.
  • Go through the initial setup process, including connecting the printer to your new wireless router.

Use Default Settings:

  • During the setup, make sure to choose default settings whenever prompted.

If the above steps don't work or if you can't find a physical reset button, you may need to consult the printer's manual for specific instructions on performing a factory reset. You can usually find the manual on the HP website.

Remember that a factory reset will erase all settings, so you'll need to reconfigure the printer, including connecting it to your new wireless network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
