I recently bought an HP Officejet 4630 all-in-one printer, and it automatically cancels jobs in the middle of printing. The computer I am using is an HP Envy dv7 with 64-bit Windows 8, and I am printing over a wireless network connection. My computer receives an error that HP Officejet 4630 series couldn't complete print and the printer simply says canceling. I have tried all the steps in the troubleshooting sections, both for printing issues and network connections. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software multiple times, I've established a manual IP, and everything else, but nothing seems to work. It also seems to have the issue when using HP ePrint. It happens in all sorts of programs and formats such as word, pdf, and html. Unfortunately, I did not receive a USB cord, so I can't see if that will fix the problem at all. Hopefully somebody can help me with this, otherwise it's obvious that there's a problem with the actual printer I got and I'm going to have to get something else.
Thanks

This is how I fixed it:
- Find out what the IP address is that your printer is using.
- Then go to control panel and click on "View Devices and Printers".
- Look for your printer an right click.
- Click "Printer Properties" and a new screen will open.
- Along the top you will see some tabs. Click the one that says "Ports"
- Click "Add Port"
- Highlight "Standard TCP/IP Port" by clicking on it, then click "New Port". A new screen will open.
- Click "Next"
- Type in the IP Address of your printer and click "Next"
Your computer should find your printer.
Click "Apply" and your printer should work correctly.

Hi,
I have the exact same problem. When I print anything more than 3 pages, it cancels in the middle of the print job for no reason. I have reset my printer to factory settings, reset my router, reinstalled the printer drivers, and this happens in any format not just word or pdf files. I have updated my firmware, printer drivers, and scan doctor does not find anything. I says "canceling..." on my computer screen and the file stops printing in mid print. This is definatley a known issue that effects more than just my printer and does not seem to have been solved. HP, have you fixed it? I'm using Windows 8.1.
Thanks,
- Jonathan

Okay. So I fixed the problem, saw the problem again, and fixed it again.
Bitdefender (and for some people McAfee antivirus) can cause problems with printing. I disabled / uninstalled that problem and I did not have a problem printing a 6 page word document.
Then I had a problem printing a four page pdf file where it would do the same thing. I uninstalled Acrobat Reader, and installed Acrobat Pro (trial) and printed the same document with no problems.
(Note: both programs caused the same problem, the printer would print a few pages, on the last page it would stop in the middle of printing with 'error printing' displaying on the computer... there was also an 'error printing' dialog when the printer was printing okay other times with a test page)
So, apparently there are multiple programs causing issues with this printer. If I come across an issue again, I will probably get a non HP printer. I have work to do with deadlines. However, so far just these two programs. I will respond to this post if I find any more.

Thank you so much! This worked for me too! I thought it was Windows 8 causing the problems with my old printer, so I purchased a new one and had the same problem. Your instructions were easy to follow and the annoying printing errors are gone! And it does not stop printing half way through.

After many attempts and searches to fix my Officejet 6500 I came across this post. I figured I had nothing to loose at this point and would give this a try. It worked perfectly! I think it would be safe to assume that this might work for most Officejet printers within this family of printers. Thank you very much for these instructions.

Davidpowers, strange that this didn't fix your problem. Did you go over everything slowly and make sure it was correct (Don't mean anything by this but I busted through quick on the other PCs in my home and messed up a few times)? The only other thing I would recommend is uninstall the printer and start over with the most up to date drivers and then follow the instructions again.

Your instructions for the HP Officejet 4630 worked! I did have a little trouble finding the PRINTER PROPERTIES in Window 8.1 (what else is new in that grotesque "busy" software which has overly complicated menus, especially the Drop Down menus?) but finally I was able to find the correct screen. Once there, it was simple, easy & quick to fix. I had spent several hours researching & trying other things.
I gave the 4630 printer an "acid test" by sending 26 pages (two-sided) to print. All 26 pages printed without errors or stopping. What relief I felt! THANK YOU! Those words seem inadequate but they are sincere.
I cannot understand WHY HP does not correct this issue in the Officejet 4630 SW installation process. (A family member who has the same printer has been only able to print one page at a time. I will be sharing your procedure with them.) It will also be interesting to see if this PORT setting is retained if & when I need to re-install the SW. By correcting this HP would be giving their reputation a BIG BOOST! I was almost ready to take the HP Officejet 4630 back to the store!!
