I have the exact same problem on mine and it's out of warranty so I can't call HP. I'm surprised it's out of warranty, I thought I bought it in March or April of this year. I've done a hard reset, I've followed every instruction I could find. I have left it unplugged for more than 24 hours. It won't do the actual hard reset. I turn the printer on and it goes right back to trying to print the alignment page. This is so frustrating and makes me not want to buy an HP printer ever again. My last HP printer had problems and sucked black ink like it was nothing else so I bought this newer one. Seems like the quality has gone to pot. Here is what I have done:
-Installed a genuine HP 63 XL cartridge
-Printer went to print alignment page
-Started printing all the stored jobs it had over the last 2 weeks while I was out of ink so I hit cancel print when it would start printing the old jobs, it asked me if I wanted to cancel all jobs and I clicked ok
-Went back to trying to print the alignment page and never recovered
-I have tried the pressing # and 9 while turning on the printer to hard reset it
-I have tried unplugging it and then pressing the power button while unplugged to release stored energy
-I tried all that while waiting over 24 hours to plug it back in
-I cleaned the contacts on the printer and the cartridge
Nothing has worked! So frustrating. It comes right back on asks me to load paper and then click OK, the show the Printing Alignment page and never goes any further.

Hi @theguyoverthere,
I suggest calling phone support to see if you may be able to get a discount on a newer model, or replace your printer if it is in warranty still. HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.
Since you said you purchased the printer in the spring, if the link I provided says the printer is out of warranty, I suggest filling out a Warranty validation form.
Before calling phone support, what you can do is use the following link to create yourself a case number, doing so may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.

@sabit07, Thanks for your response and time.
Kudos to you for trying out the steps.
As you mentioned the issue still persists after performing a semi full reset on your printer.
It certainly looks to be a hardware issue, please contact HP support for service options.
Link to contact HP.
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Hi, I also have exactly the same problem with a printer that is just over one year old.
Firmware up to date and Hard reset will not work.
Did you find a solution for it? Or is it just to throw a pretty new printer away because of a stupid firmware bugg?

Hi! @Dag2, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I understand your printer will not print an alignment page.
Don't worry I'd like to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Please try the steps recommended below.
While the printer is powered ON, pull the power cord from the printer than from the wall. After 30 seconds reconnect power to wall and printer. This will trigger a ‘dirty power up’ and restore the printer to a known good condition (if it is possible).
No user settings are lost with a ‘hard reset’. This ‘Hard Reset’ is one of the most powerful tools to use when the printer hardware is not functioning properly!
If the issue still persists after trying out the steps. Try performing a semi full reset on your printer and check if it helps.
Since the steps to perform semi full reset is confidential. I will send you the steps in a private message.
Please watch your inbox for more information.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Have a great day! 🙂

After hours of frustration, I performed to solutions recommended by others so I am not sure which was the fix.
1. I thought it was a prank suggestion but there was nothing to lose so I dropped the printer on the table a couple of inches while it was powered off.
2. I also pulled out one cartridge and let it go into single mode. And then the alignment page printed. Put the second cartridge in and it printed another allignment page.
On this issue the HP Support solutions all failed. Not just for me but just about everyone else. I can't vouch for the hard reset mode as they only reveal that in private messages.
