Do you happen to have another router to try?  There have been some issues with your particular model of router.

Is the router's firmware updated?

I am employed by HP

Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

Hello,

I noticed your very knowledgable and thorough post, and in particular that you are having reliable connectivity with an Officejet Pro 8600.  Meanwhile, I cannot achieve reliable connectivity on an 8600, and have scoured posts until the cows come home.  I was wondering if you would be willing to swap some info about how your 8600 is configured in case it might help with my problem.

Some of my config info:

- Macbook Pro

- Linksys N router and 8600 is using wireless

- Printer worked originally and has worked occasionally since

- Have tried dynamic DHCP, assigning static IP (in router and in printer setup)

- Have tried associating statis IP with printer name and/or with MAC address

- Have tried rebooting everything in various combinations

- Have tried un-installing and re-installing the printer

- Have done all the above in various combinations; occasionally results in printer working, but even if so, problems recur very soon.

Hi BnJnPnS,

just read your post, cause just bought a oj 6500 a plus and having exactly the same problems!

Did you solve the wireless disconnecting problem?

I'm thinking about sending the printer back to where it came from...

thanks for any reply,

Thorsten

Hi Thorston - Bottom line, no I never did get the problem solved with the 6500.  I was eventually contacted by someone in an HP escalation center and went through a whole bunch more testing and problem isolation with him, including router and printer firmware updates.  He eventually sent me a replacement OJ 6500a+ printer and it had the same problem, though not quite as often.  In my last message to him, I said that I thought this was either some kind of class problem with this model, or some inherent incompatibility between this printer's wireless mode and my router (which was a very high speed and high-powered router), but that I just didn't want to fool around with it any more....  I had been troubleshooting for six months with the printer sitting uselessly just a few feet from the router!  I moved the 6500 to my lowest-volume print station and just powerfailed it whenever I wanted to use it.  That usually (but not always) fixed the problem for a few minutes.  I thought that was the end of it, but about a month later, out of the blue, my escalation center contact suddenly offered to replace the OJ 6500a Plus printer with an OJ Pro 8600, in the name of customer satisfaction.  I accepted the offer, shipped the second OJ 6500a Plus back to HP, and the OJ Pro 8600 has performed flawlessly in wireless mode clear at the other end of the house ever since I installed it.  I do have to give HP credit for eventually doing the right thing in the name of customer satisfaction, but I would be more inclined to only look at printers in the OJ Pro product line in the future.

Hi BnJnPnS,

thank you for your very fast reply! Although it doesn't give me much hope.

The german HP-Board also deals with a lot of unsolved postings concerning the disconnetion of the 6500a+.

So I think it's a class problem.

And I either do not like fooling around with  my router, cause all other devices interact just perfectly together.

I will give the german support a try, and then sent it back - it is still under warranty.

Thank you for saving me a lot of time!

And good luck  with that 8600!

Hello

I understand some of you are loosing the wireless connection and one post is for the airprint not responding.

Here is a url for loosing wireless connections.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02817031

Step six provides information for setting up a static ip.

Airprint

Try turning the mobile device off and on again.
Then turn the wifi off and on again.
Try connecting to the network and printing again.

If it still fails then contact your router company to check these settings listed for the
router.
Bonjour is disabled on router or router does not support
•mDNS setting is disabled
•Multicast is disabled
•Smart device may be connected to a “Guest” network or “Extender access point”
•Check that the device has the latest iOS  version installed.

Hope this helps.

I have the same issue with my hp6500  e709a.  I ALWAYS seem to have to power off and back on if I haven't printed for awhile and since I don't do a lot of printing thqt means I have to do this evry time I print.  I'm wireless now but even when I was direct connected to my pc I had the same issue.

I can say is any better than the OP of BnJnPnS.

I have this very same issue, and have been attempting to troubleshoot it for far too long without any reliable results.  I would also like the solution.

I am a long time customer of HP printers.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks, Bill
