Since (I think) Mac OS updateto v 10.13.2 mid December I cannot properly connect to my HP officejet pro 8620.
Mac mini late 2012
Wireless connection
Printer just stopped being visible to the Mac - it showws it as being offline / idle
I deleted the printer from the printer list using Preferences.
Tried to re-install but no printer shown
I went to the HP web site and downloaded / ran the new HP smart installer. No printer was found though so install failed
I found and downloaded the full driver software driver (v 5.1) by passing the HP Smart. I did this & re- ran the driver installation but printer device detection in Preferences will still not find it.
I have forced a partial connection by connecting to the printer via its IP address but have lost scan functionality.
I can also print wirelessly from IPhone using HP Smart.
I can connect to the printer's web page and can see the settings. I can initiate a webscan from it but the scan comes out as if a page had been scrunched up. Scan to network folder or scan to computer options will not work.
I can also connect to the printer from a win 10 laptop after doing an install using HP Smart. It works from the win 10 machine but I cannot do double sided scanning

Well in one desperate last attempt to get this to work after trying Easy Start about 10 times:
- I unplugged everything
- Rebooted the mac
- purged all printers by resetting the printer system (again)
- cleared the wireless settings on the printer (again)
- rebooted the wireless (again)
- re-entered the wifi settings (again)
- rebooted the mac again
- ran printer setup again - and lo a Bonjour version of the printer was visible in the normal 'add printer' box - miracles!!
- Then re ran the Easy start software and it too found the printer!
- Followed Easy Start through and in due course it asked to use the HP driver rather than the AirPrint driver and it took me through the full set up routine inc on line
So at last after about 10 hrs trying it is back to operating how it used to.
I'm not exactly sure which bit of the switch it all off and rebuild the set up piece by piece actually worked but clearly simply running the EasyStart software by itself was not enough without a full clear out and reboot.
Thanks for the help even though the advice was not complete it did help. Persevering with the new version of Easy Start is clearly the right advice as long as it is paired with a full clean out and reboot of everything

Hi
I have followed your help page and nothing has changed. AirPrint will not find the printer via system preferences. No HP printer or scanner is visible in the printer options.
By entering the printer IP address into the "Printer and Scanner search" I can however now connect to and print from the printer. I can also access the HP printer utility screen from within the settings
But I cannot scan. No scanner is visible from AirPrint or the HP Easy Scan App. I cannot scan to email, network folders or to computer as I could before
I can connect to the printer via the web app by entering the IP address into a browser.
Scan to network folders shows folders which are set up but scanner cannot find them so scan fails
Scan to computer option no longer works
I can however scan using webscan - but anything scanned via the ADF comes out 'scrunched up'. I can only get a clear scan from the glass
The set up is:
mac mini - Mac OS 10.13.2. all updates done.
HP officejet 8620e firmware FDP1CN1733AR - all updates added
Printer has been generally trouble free until mid December which was just after the new OS 10.13.2 update
Printer is connected to wifi. I have reset wifi and re-entered passwords etc just in case.
I have switched off IPV6 as per your advice - no change
I tried disabling HTTPS but this just disabled AirPrint and nothing changed. Switched back on
I have deleted the previous HP software install and re-rerun the HP driver package v 5.1. The only app now visible is HP Easy Scan.
I can log into printer web page via its IP address and can see the settings there.
- Printer self test page prints fine from the web page
- scan from ADF produces a scrunched up illegable image
- scan to computer option not available
- scan to previously registered network folder (on the mac) will no longer work
- scan to a newly registered (on the NAS and set up by the win 10 laptop) network folder will not work
From the printer touch screen it reports wireless all connected
eprint service from the hp email address tested and works ok
I have tried multiple attempts to set up and have rebooted both printer and mac several times and after each
change
So in summary
I cannot any longer get the printer to connect to Air Print nor can I get the scan function to work as it did before OS 10.13.2 Can HP help? Is it better if I phone someone?

I have also previously 'Re-set the printer system' by right clicking in the printer and scanner preferences section and selecting this option.
This purged all printers.
I then looked for available printers and re-installed the printer - again this was only possible from the IP address. Set up as an AirPrint printer with the correct selected driver from the drop down list which appears.

Thanks. I had previously tried this but forgot to say.
I have run it again and it will not find the printer.
I saw that there was a search option so put the IP address in and the printer is found.
However there is a warning note saying that connecting a MFD this way will not use Bonjour so the scan function will not work.
Which gives me the saem end result as before
I have seen some people saying that the new OS has sidelined or removed Bonjour as a service which could be the problem.
Any comment or other ideas?
