FWIW,
I did a full factory reset & ensured new HP ink, and *knock on wood*, it hasn't BSOD'd.
BUT...the black printhead, which was starting to band does not appear to be able to be cleaned. In fact, the banding is actually getting worse, not better. So that's cool, right??? *sarcasm*

Copied from another person's post that may have been deleted:
1) on touch screen, hit somewhere below “?” Somewhere around where back arrow shows up (bottom left of screen - even when its not visible). Back arrow illuminates and Support menu name shows up.
2) Hit Support menu. Scroll right to “Resets Menu”. Hit OK.
3) scroll right to “Semi-full reset”
4) Hit OK
5) printer goes through its paces, including alignment. Prints out an alignment page.
6) once done, you have to setup your network/wireless settings
7) in that process, I declined automatic firmware updates. You will receive notice when a firmware update is available and choose then, after some weeks, as to whether to do it or not.

A post by Be-The-Light became the officially became the Accepted Solution, but someone, apparently a moderator of the discussion forum from HP, removed the helpful part of the post and replaced it with "Content Removed". So, apparently, there is an accepted solution that HP doesn't want you to know. The problem apparently started with a firmware update. If so, it was HP that caused the problem.

Not sure who or by what criteria this issue has been determined to be resolved, when it certainly is NOT!
My HP 7740 is currently experiencing this issue. I can press the power button a few times and it seems to return to normal operation for a short period of time, then returns back to the blue screen. I confirmed that the firmware is up to date. But this is obviously a firmware issue. You know, I may not be a genius, but when multiple people with the exact same product have the exact same problem at the exact same time, I'd say there is a common problem! Genius!
HP, please address this issue!
I agree with what one customer said when told that their printer was out of warranty and they may have to buy a new one - if I have to buy a new printer, it certainly won't be an HP!

Whenever you see so many posters, it’s always a good idea to look through the thread. The semi-full reset has worked for so many here. Originally posted on 1st page (and resolved status according to moderator), however moderator made the changes (content removed) to that and another copy/paste for a reposter. You’ll see the steps on page 6. Below is copy/paste.
Isn’t it interesting that the fix was edited by RodrigoB and that Music2030’s post incl. repost of steps is deleted from their original 09-10-2022 02:08AM post. I have proof that HP is compromising information and help to others. For others, copy/paste or screenshot for future reference to help others, as a community helping each other without HP support.
HP; Divert your attention to not creating the problem in the first place or solving the problem after launch (firmware issue) and not policing the solution. I am taking this issue to the top. For all, I would recommend not having automatic updates and only update after awhile if it’s successful (ie. no problem posts). For those who need the steps of what I had posted (before moderator removed), see following (paraphrased):

Be-the-light you're on the verge of being my hero! Thank you for taking the time to respond to this and for your insight. By all accounts, this seems to have solved my problem. Thank you! Now, I just need to figure out why the printer won't connect WiFi...
