I guess you are misunderstanding me here. What I mean iby HP-qualified is simply a link in HP knowledgebase and/or URL. The external link you are referencing does not account for the HP8620 and/or WSD. What I am looking for is a HP-hosted/specific resource/link/url that shows why TCP/IP is preferred over the WSD and how it solves the problem I am facing here. Again the problem isn't accessing an TCP/IP address, it is maintaining the connection to the TCP/IP address.
So I just saw the link you provided. Thank you for that. That is more along the lines of what I am looking for, but for the 8620 and for the scenario that we are discussing here.
I think the answer here is to perform this on one of the machines and see how it does. If it fixes it there then switch the others over, even if that means having less access to WSD functionality (which would be a total disappointment!)

Well it took a while (as it has with each time trying to troubleshoot this) but I can confirm that setting the TCP/IP port does not work and we still lose connection to the printer (per machine, not network-wide). The only way to to re-establish is to restart the printer.
The TCP/IP port recommendation does sound a little suspect as this seems like something HP would configure out of the box, if it was an issue. Also it seems that TCP/IP is a step down from the WSD port as in addition to losing the web services functionality/connection, another printer is added altogether to the printer list of the computer that this configuration is performed (I've done this on two).
In any case, I am interested in any other recommendations around this issue. In particular, I am wondering what magic occurs when the printer re-establishes network connection on restart, and if there is a way to force that from the client.
Essentially, I am thinking of making a .bat that calls this magic reset command. Thank you for any continued assistance. 🙂

Hi, I'm having the same problem (and I am not alone) with the 8700 series (an 8725) amongst other things they suggest using dns of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as well as manual ip , tcp port etc. so far NONE works! like you I want that wake up reset ping or preferably HP to issue a software patch. The 8725 doesnt even have a way of turning off the sleep mode - or of setting system timeout to zero (as the remote assistant has just discovered!). Do keep this topic alive - there has to be a fix!

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that your HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 All-in-One Printer does not wake up from sleep mode.
This issue could occur if the firmware is not updated.
And here's the step by step guide for you in the link to update the firmware: Firmware Update
Let me know how this works.
You have a good day ahead.

Hi @Rainbow23, are you aware of what command and/or application runs between the printer and PCs to "refresh" their connection? There is something that occurs when the printer turns off and then turns back on that makes everything happy again. It would be nice to know if there is an app/cmd for that and can wrap that in a .bat file or something, much like we do w/ ipconfig /flushdns, etc.

I understand that you wanted to know if there is an App or command to refresh the connection between the printer and the computer.
We do not have any such commands to the best of my knowledge.
You have a good day ahead.

Hi 'Rainbow23' Yes the software and firmware is up to date - in fact it 'phoned home' and did all that on installation. Today, after changing the dns to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. it did wake up when I sent it a test quality page and then a normal request - although it still shows as 'not connected' in devices and printers. I can live with that if it allows me to print! 😉

Hi @solent, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @Rainbow23, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.
Thanks for the reply, glad to hear that you are able to print even though you see a message that says not connected. However, the issue you are facing seems to be a driver issue. Recommend you follow the procedure mentioned below to uninstall the printer software following the procedure mentioned below and install it back and check. (The procedure mentioned below is for Windows, let me know if you are using a MAC computer.)
Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
Click on print server properties.
You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.
Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
Restart the PC.
Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
Restart the PC again.
Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
Let me know if this helped.

Hi Chimney83, thanks for the extra info - did you note that I was actually having the issue with the 8700 series? anyway - I have taken note of your suggestion assuming it works for all this type of printer, but - as the online chat person took over my pc and managed to get it going (the crucial thing apart from a static ip seems the 8888 dns), I am reluctant to fiddle about at the moment - if it aint broke...... although it still says 'status unconnected' in devices and printers it is now waking up to print regardless so I will leave it at that for now!
