HP Officejet Pro 8620

Hello,

I'm trying to set up the wireless function on my new HP Officejet Pro 8620. I just need it to link in with my BT wireless router but when I start the wireless wizard going it can't find the wireless network name whilst my mac and iphone have no problem doing so.  If I enter the network name manually it says 'the network name cannot be found. Contact your administrator or the person who set it up the network'. Any ideas?

Many thanks

Hi @Poppy123,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you're unable to configure the wireless on your HP Officejet Pro 8620 Printer. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

It sounds like you're trying to connect the printer to a 5.0 GHz network. The printer cannot see or connect to the 5.0 GHz network. If you have a dual-band router, enable the 2.4 GHz network. Each network name should be unique.

  • What is the model number of your router?
  • What encryption type are you using? HP recommends WPA/WPA 2.
  • Is your router's firmware updated?
  • Depending on which version of Windows you have, click here to locate the printer's firmware update.
  • Make sure you have 802.11g enabled.
  • Do not hide your SSID (network name).
  • The network name is case sensitive, enter it in upper-case on the printer if required.
  • Move the printer closer to the router if the signal is weak.

If the issues persist, perform a factory reset on the router, reconfigure the wireless again. Before setting up the wireless on the printer, restore the network defaults and do a hard reset.

  • On the printer's front panel menu, select Setup-> Network-> Restore network defaults.

Now, perform a hard reset:

  • Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
  • Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
  • Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet (don't use a power bar or a surge protector). This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
  • Now, try connecting the printer wirelessly again.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck! :
