I just purchased the Officejet Pro 8710 and deeply disappointed. Once the printer enters sleep mode, touching the display wakes up the screen, but the unit will not print unless I power off and on the printer, then whatever I had sent to the printer begins printing. I've uninstalled/installed the softare 5 times now on two different computers with one running Windows 10 and the other Windows 7. I also have the same issue with the scan function in that it will not scan once in sleep mode unless I power off then on the unit. I will most likely return my purchase within the next day or so.
I'm using the printer via Wireless connectivity speeds up to 1GB.
Is there a way to turn off sleep mode as I have not found it?
I do hope someone has a solutionfor this issue.

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Can you try this troublesooting document :
Offline troubleshooting document for Officejet Pro 8600/8700 series

Ps: we are using the OJP 8730 printer and also encountered the same issue, but creating the TCP/IP port resolves the problem. It's been 4 days now and we're able to print 🙂
Hope that helps!

I'm appreciative of the quick response, however this did not resolve the problem for me. I reinstalled the software and printer several times making the modifications as the document clearly pointed out. Thus, I still have the problem. Thank you though for recommending a fix.

Hi @WSE
Thanks for yoru feedback.
We'd like to suggest that you try the follwoing :
Creating a Static IP address using EWS
Let us know if that works in combination with the TCP/IP port.
Thanks.

Thanks for the response for setting up the Static IP Address using EWS. I did this from the previous document suggested and was unsuccessful. So I went back and changed it again. EWS shows I'm using the Static IP address which matches the printer. It works fine until the printer enters sleep mode, then when I print something I get a message connection is lost print error, so touching the display wakes up the printer but the connection is lost so I power off then on the printer and within a minute the documents I sent to the printer begin printing even if I had sent multiple test prints they all print out as if there was never a problem.
So unfortunately I still must power off and on the printer whenever it has entered sleep mode to get the print and scan to work.

Hi,
Thanks for trying out the suggestions.
Could you advise on the Router model that you are using?
Is it possible to check if there are any updates to the router that you can download and update?
Thanks.

Found and updated the HP Officejet 8710 Firmware - WBP2CN1619BR - all is now working fine. Waited for printer to enter sleep mode, waited one hour and then asked the printer to SCAN a document from using HP Officejet 8710 PRO software on my laptop and all worked fine.
