I work for DXC today but used to work for HP and HPE before. i still use corporate HP gear (pc and printer). But since i got my new (actually a refurbished HP elitebook) PC running windows 10, i cannot get my old USB connected PSC 1315 all in one to work. i have been playing with it for 3 days now, read lots of articles, installed, removed all software/drivers, ran HP Print doctor, but to no avail. the key things to note is that
- print doctor states my device driver is not properly installed (but i cannot get that fixed somehow)
- when i run the all in 1 software and connect my Printer, i immediately get the following error : HPE CUE status root has stopped working. only option is to close the program.
- scanning works, but printing does not!
again i have tried multiple things remove everything, start again, let windows load drivers, use different USB ports, manually update drivers, etc etc etc etc. but i always come back to the same issues stated above.
can you please assist me?

Hi @peterbuyst,
Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that you are unable to install the print drivers for your HP PSC 1315 All-in-One Printer.
This issue could occur if the drivers are not installed properly.
Let's go through a few steps to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:
Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:
Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)
Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.
Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:
- Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing one of the following:
- Click the Start menu and in the search field type 'print /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click it in the search list.
- Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'print /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.
- From the Start menu or the Start screen:
- Open Devices and Printers.
- Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window.
- Click on the Drivers tab.
- Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.
- Click the Remove button.
- Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.
Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Full Feature Software and Drivers
Let me know how this works.
You have a good day ahead.

Hi Rainbow, thanks for the detailed reply. here is a detailed overview of what i did.
1. made hardcopies of how the printer looks today (printers and devices and print server properties. i will try to attach them to this post later. short : i do not think a driver ever installed for the printer, only the scanner piece of the all in one and that was as i posted working ok!
2. followed instructions to remove all HP software related to the printer.
3. then i tried to remove the printer driver by going to print server properties. as you can see from the hardcopy, there were no drivers for this printer, so i could not remove anything
Note : there was a (greyed out) printer in the printer list under "printers and devices" which i deleted at before proceeding
4. downloaded all 300+mb worth of software for the all in one using the link you provided
5. complete new install of all software
this is what happened during install :
- the system check ended fine (green tickmark)
- preparing system for installation took some time but finished fine (green tickmark again)
- installing software
- HP photosmart all in one software : ok
- HP solution center : OK
- HP Imaging device functions : OK
then he asked to me to connect my device : after doing so, the install program counted 7 steps . all seemed fine
- Configure product install abended... with message "HP CUE root has stopped working"
configuring product step continued for another 10 min or so, then a message "fatal error during installation"
a full error log of the failed installation was created and sent to HP as 14522094.zip
removing everything and starting again, same thing!
End result : no change (the generic printer, scanner, copier shows up under devices and printers, but without a driver!

Hello, i have tried your solution and initially it did not work. but then i also used the troubleshooter on automatic update and it seemed windows resolved a problem with the automatic update DB being corrupt. then i did a manual install of the printer using the windows preloaded drivers.
Not sure if that made a difference, but the printer is working now as the driver was finally loaded correctly.
thanks a lot for the assistance.
