HP Photosmart C3180
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I got this out of storage a few months back and it was working fine.  At the moment though it will not print, scan or copy anything - I'm getting two main error messages 'paper jam' - there isn't; 'cartridge can't move' - it can, or a job just sits in the print queue.  I've tried reinstalling the drivers, replacing the print cartridges and following trouble shooting - but don't know what else I can do

@Aravis, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to print due to these errors. Let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Perform the steps mentioned in this document - Clearing a Paper Jam for HP Photosmart C3100 and PSC 1510 All-in-One Printer Series

Also, check - Carriage jam or E3 error

Try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

If the issue persists, I'm afraid this is a hardware failure. If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I also get the message that there is an error with the ink but no details. HP solution center shows an empty black ink although it is a Brand New original one 338. Therefore I guess this is a software issue. I was always very satisfied with HP printers. Now they started to destroy old hardware via software updates although they know that hardware has not a single performance problem. It is the opposite: they know that scanners were much  better stuffed in first photosmart series than nowadays.

I see myself forced to put a very valuable, actually well working device right into the bin. How can this be sustainable? I was even accepting higher Price for Original ink to save my device when software update refused third party ink. What is your goal HP? How can you save money by wasting ressources and material like this?

At least I would have expected  an incentive to change the device and get a discount for a new one if software updates have such consequences. Lessons learned? Yes, I will Never ever buy a HP printer again!
