Like many others in this community, within a few hours my printer went from working fine to sending me error messages, including 'filter failed.' Downloading a new driver didn't help. Trying to delete the printer and then adding it back in not only didn't work, now it won't accept it back in at all. Clearly there is a corrupted piece of software. Where is HP??.....they should be sending out a new driver so all of us can get back to work!!

The solution is to download (and install) this package (From HP FTP) which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essen...
The install takes a bit. Let it run, even if it seems like it stalled out!
It is NOT the same as the driver package, Easy Start, or Easy Admin other people are recommending.
If the link comes up blank, try right clicking and saving it. If you install this package and still have trouble, try restarting. Then go about uninstalling your printer and reinstalling USING THIS METHOD ONLY: Apple Logo (Upper Left of Screen)/System Preferences/Printers & Scanners. Then restart your computer.
If you still can't find the printer, install the 5.1 driver package from HP: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US
Then restart and try to install again through the Printers & Scanners menu.
Easy Admin did nothing. Easy Startup did nothing. 5.1 drivers did nothing. This worked for me!
If this solved your issue, please thumbs up and mark as solved!

What driver list? The package I listed just installs. No need to select anything. Follow the next steps exactly as written.
Restart. Then go about uninstalling your printer and reinstalling USING THIS METHOD ONLY (NOT EASY START, NOT EASY ADMIN): Apple Logo (Upper Left of Screen)/System Preferences/Printers & Scanners. Then restart your computer.
If you still can't find the printer, install the 5.1 driver package from HP: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US
Then restart and try to install again through the Printers & Scanners menu.

But what do you mean with "if you can't find thr printer"? Because my printer shows up in the list and gets successfully connected. Only that it gets connected as C4600 series and nor as C4680. Therefore printing isn't working, only scanning.
If I install the printer i have the possibility to select a driver for the printer, but my printer is not on that list.
But I'll try again tomorrow.
Thank you very much!

If I go and check the details of my printer the driver version always remains 3.3.2 even if I just installed the 5.1 driver pack. it is still not working. If I try to print something it remains stuck in the list.
