Hello, @Carole6cat

It looks like an issue with the printer hardware. I would suggest contacting the HP phone support for further assistance or for possible printer upgrade.

You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Have a great day:)

Hello, @Carole6cat – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

Going through your post, I understand that you had an issue with the ink cartridge leak and now getting bad quality prints.

First off, make sure to clean the ink spilled inside the printer using a wet lint-free cloth. Thoroughly clean the paper path and the rollers. Once done, try cleaning the cartridge are as suggested here: http://hp.care/2oHKcCW

If the issue persists, change the leaky cartridge and then try to print again. To fix the print quality issue, follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2oHJ**bleep**

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Cheers 🙂

I tried all of your advice, regarding my  ink and printing problem for the Photosmart C7180.

I cleaned away all of the leaked ink, and replaced the offending cartridge (black).

The printer began to function again, but kept coming up with  the message that it was not allgned properly.

I have run the realign procedure multiple times. Each time I ran the "align Printer" the printing and color kept getting better, until now all of the colors and patterns are  back to normal, except for the black, which now refuses to print at all.

There is plenty of ink in the cartridge, so that is not the problem. I have also cleaned the print heads twice, so that is not the solution either. Any other things I could try?

Hello, @Carole6cat

Glad to know that the printer is printing fine except for the black. Alignment issue could be because there is no black printout. Did you check the ink level of the black ink to make sure you have enough ink?

If the ink level is good, then try cleaning the cartridges as suggested below:

  1. Verify that there is plain white paper in the input tray.

  2. Press Setup.

  3. Press  to select Tools and then press OK.

  4. Press  to select Clean Printhead and then press OK. A test page prints.

Repeat the exercise 2-3 times if you do not have the black ink after the 1st cleaning.

Once the black starts printing fine, try to align the printer again to make sure the issue is completely resolved. If the issue persists, try using an alternate black cartridge and check for issue resolution.

Let me know how that goes!

Good luck 🙂

I have tried all of your suggestions, but  my problem is not yet resolved. The black ink on my Photoshop C7180 still refuses to print, despite cleaning the  print heads three times and replacing the cartridge.  I ran the " realign printer' 7 or 8 times, but  the printer continues to show the message that realignment failed.

I'm out of suggestions. Got any more?

Thanks for all your help with my Photosmart C7180, but none of the suggestions fixed my printing problem.

I guess I've reached the end of the line!       Tried to contact customer support and got a message that HP no longer supports my product. I searched for a qualified service repair site, and the closest one was six hours away. What a shame!

I love this printer and really hate to give up on it.
