I've set up my new HP printer to run both wirelessly and via USB. I need the latter as I have a major internet connectivity problem and I need to be able to print even when there's no wifi.
It prints fine wirelessly but won't recognise the USB cable (which is an HP branded one). I go through set up for USB cable, get to the page where it says 'Connect the USB cable' and then it gets stuck there, won't pick up that I have connected it. I've tried switching everything off and on, connecting the cable in different orders (printer end first, computer end first, before and after the prompt message) to no avail. I can't get past the point in set up where it's asking me to connect the cable, except by selecting 'connect later', which I did once. So now it's set up for a cable which it doesn't recognise.

Hi @Fuzzbat,
Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand you are having difficulty using the HP printer over the USB connection, don't worry we'll work together to find a solution for you,
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Are you able to use any other USB device on the same port?
Have you tried with a different USB compatible cable?
Have you tried connecting this cable to another USB port?
In the meantime, let's try to perform a Hard reset on the printer, computer, and the router.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you.
If you wish to help others looking for the same solution as you've found, mark the post as Accepted Solution.

Hello @Jeet_singh,
Actually, I found out that even though the computer won't go past the 'please connect USB' page in set-up, it still prints via the USB anyway, so it recognises it's there even without going through the full set-up. So, problem solved. Thanks for your help.
