HP b110a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

After resetting (OOB reset) my HP printer (model : b110a), I have a weird error message.

Printer says that I need to insert "Setup" Cartridges.

Good news is I found the original setup cartridges in the printer box.

Of course they are empty and/or dried, since it's been like 8 years I replaced them.

So I plugged back the original setup cartridges, made by HP, sold by HP, included by HP in a HP printer box.

And guess what ? THEY'RE NOT CONSIDERED AS VALID BY THE PRINTER ANYMORE.

And you can't buy new ones.

And you just can't bypass that check.

And you can't access any setup menu since the failed check happens at printer startup.

I barely printed 300 pages with this printer, didn't use it for a while, and now it's useless because an HP printer can't even recognize original HP setup cartridges.

Please provide a solution.

What a waste...

Hi @Sateeva,

We would have to perform an OOBE reset on the printer to bypass the error

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Sorry, but it didn't help.

First, in order to access the service menu on this printer model, you have to plug the power cord while pushing the on/off button.

THEN, you can use the TL/BL/BL/TL sequence and enter service menu.

So it differs from the procedure you sent me.

In the service menu there is a OOB RESET entry.

But there is no mention of "TRADE" whatsoever.

When performing a OOB RESET, the printer just shuts off very quickly.

When I turn it on again, I still have the same message : INCOMPATIBLE CARTRIDGES // PLEASE USE THE SETUP CARTRIDGES THAT CAME WITH THE PRINTER.

As this is a hardware issue, I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Follow the instructions below to reach them:

1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.

6)Fill the web-form and proceed further.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Have a great day!

Well, warranty has expired and local support won't do anything.

They just propose to buy a new printer, ahah.

I barely printed 300 pages with this printer during it's whole lifetime.

Those (useless and artificial) cartridges check are just a shame.

I understand that greedy printing corporations are trying to control the cartridge market, but THIS IS GOING TOO FAR.

Try to make a reliable check next time, or don't block the printer if the test fails.

As a result, I now have to dump 10 pounds of metal/plastic/ink waste from a printer who otherwise works well mechanically .

This is infuriating and  definitely NOT eco-friendly.

But good news for the planet : My IT department is now in charge of having a call for bids to renew 4.000 individual printers in the company I work for. Be assured that HP won't win this market this time. Or any other time.

Adios. 🙂
