Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have brand new printer set up and I have noticed two problems with the scanner:

1. The scanner lights keeps blinking all the time. The pritner is not in error state and all cartridges installed with latest software. No paper jam etc. It scans but then the lights keep blinking. Have tried reinstallation but its the same. This is the second printer I find the issue with. Previous one was returned same day as it also had paper jam issues.

2. The source of scanner is set to feeder but 5 out of 10 times it will still scan from flatbed scanner and not feeder. sometimes it works and sometimes doesnt.

Have contacted HP and raised a ticket with no solution so far. they think that the blinking light is for paper jam but there no paper jam.

any help from anyone is appreciated.

Resolving Scanner Light Blinking Issue on HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4278 All-in-One Printer

It sounds like your printer is scanning successfully, but the scanner light continues to blink. This might indicate a possible calibration or connection issue. Here are steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Reset the Printer

Resetting the printer can resolve a number of issues. Follow these steps to perform a reset:

  1. Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer by pressing the power button.

2. Ensure Firmware is Updated

Make sure that your printer firmware is up to date:

  1. Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
  2. Select your printer model and operating system (Windows 11).
  3. Download and install the latest firmware update available for your printer.

3. Check for Scanner Errors

Ensure that there are no mechanical issues with the scanner:

  1. Open the scanner lid and check for any obstructions.
  2. Clean the scanner glass with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.

4. Reinstall Printer Software

Reinstalling the printer software can sometimes resolve persistent issues:

  1. Uninstall the current printer software from your computer.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Download the latest printer software from the HP Customer Support, select your printer model and operating system (Windows 11), and then follow the installation instructions.

Thanks for the update—and good call getting an HP technician involved if the blinking lights persisted despite all the usual troubleshooting.

That persistent scanner light can sometimes point to a hardware-level fault that requires hands-on attention.

If anything changes in the meantime, just say the word. You’ve done all the right steps so far.
