HP envy series 4502 not printing PDF double sided / duplex

Literally installed this brand new printer following HP instruction and HP driver for Mac OS.

I find that the printer prints word documents double sided absolutely fine, but when trying to print any PDF double sided (even with 'two sided printing' ticked in the settings), the printer fails to print PDFs in duplex.

Is this a firmware issue on the printer that needs to be fixed? HP support - please advise. I did update the printer to the latest firmware but clearly this is still an issue.

Hi,

What application you are printing PDF from? is it Adobe Reader or Apple Preview?

From Adobe Reader, open the print diaog and press the Printer... button, then select Two-Sided from within the Layout menu option and press OK.

Can you see any difference while printing then?

the file is being opened in Apple Preview. I have just tested it and when printing from Adbobe PDF Reader, duplex printing works fine. 

Is there any chance a fix can be applied in a future driver rlease to enable duplex printing from Apple Preview? I imagine this issue hits many Apple users who ordinarily will not know to use Adobe rather than Apple Preview.

Hi,

As Duplex printg work from other applications, the issue more likely relies with Apple Preview itself and not with the printer driver or Firmware.

I suggest contacting Apple on this matter.
