HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer - H711a/H711g

My HP printer 6600 is displaying an Error message that reads "Missing or Failed Printhead".  In checking options HP notes that if there is no "latch" on the cartridge panel the to reach out to HP Support which I did but haven't heard back from.  Any ideas for me aside from purchasing a new printer since I have many spare cartridges left over!

HI @Briellewhitney,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Missing or Failed Printhead" error on your HP 6600 printer can be frustrating, but there are several troubleshooting steps you can try before considering a new printer. Here’s what you can do:

Troubleshooting Steps

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 5-10 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can help reset the internal components.

Check Printhead Installation:

  • Open the printer cover and carefully remove the printhead.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on both the printhead and the printer with a lint-free cloth or a soft, dry cloth. Ensure there is no debris or ink buildup.

Reinstall the Printhead:

  • After cleaning, reinstall the printhead securely. Make sure it clicks into place and is seated properly.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Inspect the cartridge area for any obstructions or debris that could prevent proper installation.

Try a Different Printhead:

  • If you have a spare printhead, try installing it to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the printhead is faulty.

Firmware Update:

  • Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP website.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a hard reset by following the steps in the user manual or HP support site. This often involves holding down certain buttons while powering on..

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
