I have seen this reported before, but have never seen a clear cut resolution. This morning my printer was in this state. I guess something happened overnight, but not sure what. I have powered printer off and back on numerous times and that hasn't changed anything. As soon as printer is powered back on, it displays the F on the display panel and I can't print to the printer. Printer displays on my computer as offline. I go through all the offline troubleshooting and that doesn't change anything either. So, right now I have a useless printer. Can someone please help me resolve this issue so that I can an operational printer again? I just purchased it new in Sept 2023, so it just doesn't make sense to be non-operational so soon. And since others have report the F issue before I would think that HP would have some advice to offer to resolve. I look forward to hearing from someone that can help me get my printer working again.

Hi @k9s4me,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP DeskJet 4155e printer. The "F" on the display panel typically indicates a hardware or firmware problem. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Make sure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer. Open all access doors and remove any stuck paper.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on.
Update Firmware:
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware might resolve compatibility issues.
Reset the Printer:
- Perform a factory reset on the printer. This is usually done through the printer settings menu. Refer to your printer manual for instructions on how to do this.
Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Uninstall the printer drivers from your computer and reinstall them. You can download the latest drivers from the official HP website.
Check for Software Conflicts:
- Ensure that there are no conflicts with other software or antivirus programs that might be causing the issue. Temporarily disable antivirus software and check if the problem persists.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I have tried most of these things and some of these things I am unable to do because the printer is really non-operational and not communicating. So, how am I supposed to update firmware if the printer isn't communicating? I have only had this printer since September and it is now completely useless. I am losing my patience on getting this fixed. I went and ordered another 4155e and am getting ready to setup it up because I signed up for Instant Ink and have lots of ink to use up, but if this next 4155e fails in an unreasonable amount of time I think I will have to change brands. I have already polled my Facebook Friends and many of them highly recommended the Epson Eco Tank. I guess only time will tell. I feel like no one really has a clue how to resolve this matter. I feel that I am jumping through hoops, but everything thus far has been in vain.
