HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I ordered a NEW Print-head for HP8610 and still receive "Failed Printhead" message. I ran all the reset options (3 or more times), firmware is current, and can not get past the error message with new printhead. I also have a HP8625 printer from my daughter with same issue. Is there something within the printer it's self that I can do to fix this.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • If the error persists, there might be a hardware issue within the printer that prevents proper communication with the printhead. This could include problems with the printhead carriage or electrical connections.

Specific Considerations for Your Models:

HP OfficeJet 8610:

  • Make sure you're using genuine HP printheads, as third-party printheads can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

HP OfficeJet 8625:

  • Similar to the 8610, ensure that the printhead is properly seated and that all contacts are clean.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Movie_Nut,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with persistent printhead errors despite replacing the printheads and trying various resets. Here are some additional steps you can try for both the HP OfficeJet 8610 and HP OfficeJet 8625.

General Troubleshooting Steps:

Check the Printhead Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printhead access door.
  • Remove the printhead and examine the contacts on both the printhead and the printer for any dirt or residue.
  • Gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly dampened with distilled water. Allow it to dry completely before reinserting the printhead.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Ensure there are no paper jams or foreign objects inside the printer that could be obstructing the printhead.

Reinstall the Printhead:

  • Remove the printhead and reinstall it carefully, making sure it clicks into place securely.

Update Firmware:

  • Verify that the printer firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes an update can address printhead issues. Even if you think it's current, check the HP website for the latest version.

Printer Reset:

  • Perform a full reset of the printer by following the specific reset procedure for your model. Sometimes a hard reset can clear persistent errors. This typically involves unplugging the printer, waiting for a minute, and then plugging it back in.

Printhead Initialization:

  • After reinstalling the printhead, some printers require an initialization or alignment process. Follow the printer’s instructions for this if prompted.

Thanks, for your detailed feedback. I have tried most of the items you suggested. Firmware is up-to-date.

On one print head, it did recognize the print head, then during alignment process I heard the sound of pumping ink, but errored out, stating something was wrong with the Black cartridge. I have 3 XL black cartridges with LOTS of ink in them, each gave same error after using a lot of the c/y/m ink in the alignment process. This is the original Printhead from the 8625 printer (I get same results in 8610 printer with this printhead). The new print head I ordered to fix at least one of the printers, just flat out fails like my original printhead in the 8610 printer.

I have not done a factory reset because I was not sure if I could get all my settings back and the 8625 printer is my daughters, so not on my account, so not sure how I would get it reinstated with firmware and settings.
