If you have not already done so, update the printer Firmware.\

HP Officejet 6950/6960/Pro 6960/Pro 6970 All-in-One Series - Firmware

After the firmware is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Firmware 1828A - Description

This firmware update addresses an important security vulnerability (see Security Bulletin HPSBHF03589 on the HP Support Page)
Note: This firmware version disables features that could prevent certain ink cartridges containing non-HP security chips from working in printers manufactured prior to December 1, 2016. Please note that HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP cartridges.

Fixes

  • Critical security fixes
  • Improvement to Google Cloud Print compatibility
  • Fixes issue where some dates are not displayed correctly in Report Page
  • Fixes printing issue when using Secure AirPrint

What happens next?

Once the firmware is updated, the security feature that might have prevented the use of non-HP cartridges is disabled.

After the firmware is updated, any ink cartridge, non-HP or otherwise, might not work.  Once the security feature is disabled, the cause of any subsequent cartridge failure is not due to any left over "ghost" lock, nefarious actions, or other means of preventing you from using non-HP cartridges, refilled or new / genuine.

That means, you can still get stuck with ink cartridges that just won't work because of "some other reason".

Return non-working cartridges to the merchant from whom you purchased the cartridge(s) for refund or replacement.

Discussion - Commentary - Personal Observations

If you have not done so recently:  Clean your printer.   Know that using refilled cartridges can eventually damage the printer.  Once this happens, the damage may not be able to be "undone".

Hello

If I could figure out how to retrieve the private message that was sent I might do that.

But it has taken to long and now I am just more disappointed with HP.

I am going out to buy a new printer and IT WILL NOT BE HP.

If HP ink was more affordable I would not need to use refilled cartridges in the first place.

Also HP knows exactly what they did when sending the printer update to NOT allow refilled cartridges.

Not a happy customer!!!!
