WINDOWS 11 PRO OPERATING SYSTEM - HP PROBOOK 440 G5 LAPTOP MODEL.
- With the HP SMART app, the printer is "READY," the ink levels are displayed, the scanner works, and the diagnostics and troubleshooting program reports no problems. However, when I try to print a test page or any other file, the printer doesn't start. If I try to print a PDF, the preview appears but it doesn't start. When I try to print a Word file, it says "User Intervention Required." When I check the printer status in the control panel under "BLUETOOTH & DEVICES," the printer is recognized, but the message "Default, Attention Required" appears under the printer name. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer with all its programs, but it still won't work. The printer works when I try to print from my phone and another Mac. Is the problem with the PC? I've checked everywhere and run all the diagnostics, but to no avail.

Hi @stefanodpl,
Thank you for confirming the steps you’ve already tried. Since the printer works from your phone and Mac but not from the Windows 11 Pro PC, the issue is very likely Windows-side communication, especially after the recent Windows update you mentioned. Let’s try a few deeper checks to isolate what’s blocking the print job.
Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor (Full Reset Mode)
Download and run the latest version.
When prompted, select “Fix Printing” and follow all automated repairs, especially anything related to ports or drivers.
Remove All HP Printer Drivers from Windows
Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Right-click any HP device → Remove device.
Then open Print Server Properties → Drivers tab → Remove all HP entries.
Restart the PC and reinstall the printer using the HP Smart app.
Force the Printer to Use a TCP/IP Port Instead of WSD
Go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners → Your Printer → Printer Properties.
Under the Ports tab, add a Standard TCP/IP Port using the printer’s IP address.
Select this new port and uncheck WSD.
WSD often breaks after Windows updates.
Check for a Blocked Spool Folder
Press Win + R → type %systemroot%\System32\spool\PRINTERS
If it has files inside, delete them (restart Print Spooler first).
Corrupt spool files can stop jobs from launching.
Disable “Let Windows Manage My Default Printer”
Windows sometimes switches to a phantom copy.
Go to Settings → Printers → turn this off and manually choose your 5740 as default.
Reset the Windows Print Subsystem
Open PowerShell as Administrator and run:
Get-Printer | Remove-Printer
(This removes all printers—don’t worry.)
Restart the PC, reinstall your printer cleanly.
I hope this helps.

Thank you for your help, but I assure you that I had already done everything you suggested. Just to be safe, I followed your instructions again, but the printer still doesn't work. I wonder how it’s possible that it suddenly stopped working???? The only thing that comes to mind is that, if I remember correctly, the problem arose after a Windows update, but I could be wrong.
