I had no issues printing and my printer went through an update and now im getting an error for my ink cartridges. I already tried all the trouble shooting recommendations of unplugging and cleaning ect and no change. I am not under warranty and my ink cartridges are relatively new maybe printed 10 pages

Hi @Rwirley,

Thanks for confirming your printer model! Since you’ve already tried the basic troubleshooting and the issue started after a firmware update, it’s likely the printer firmware no longer recognizes the installed cartridges. Let’s go through a few advanced steps to get your OfficeJet 8015e working again:

1. Power Reset with Cartridge Re-seat

Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall outlet.

Remove all ink cartridges.

Wait for about 60 seconds.

Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or extensions).

Power it back on and reinsert the cartridges one at a time, closing the access door after each insertion.

Check if the error clears.

2. Update or Reinstall Firmware via HP Smart

If your printer connects to Wi-Fi and shows up in HP Smart:

Open the HP Smart app → Printer Settings → Advanced Settings (this opens the Embedded Web Server).

Go to Printer Update → Firmware Update and check for any new updates.
(Sometimes HP releases a secondary patch for firmware-related cartridge recognition issues.)

If HP Smart cannot detect the printer:

Visit HP Software and Drivers, enter OfficeJet 8015e, and download the Firmware Update Utility for your computer.

Run the tool while the printer is powered on and connected via USB.

3. Use Original HP Cartridges

Please confirm that your ink cartridges are genuine HP Instant Ink or standard HP cartridges (not refilled or third-party).
After certain firmware updates, non-HP cartridges may stop working due to new security authentication protocols.

I hope this helps.
