I bought photosmart 5520 about 4 months ago. Initially impressed. It ran out of black ink in double quick time. I concluded that HP only half filled the cartridges that come with the printer. I put in a new black cartridge and it too has run out already. The two should print 500 pages!!! That's a ream of paper. I know that I have not used anything like that amount of paper and would guess that I have used less than 150 sheets some in colour. This is unacceptable. Any one have similar experience or know what to do???

All cartridges now show low and it prints nothing. Thus 5 cartridges in total allowed me to print 365 pages. I think that is very very poor. 10p per page is ridiculous in my opinion. I may use photosmart for another 6 months then dump it for a more economic type. My old Epsom was much better and still works. Not wireless tho. I may go back to it

Thanks forthe reply. The link you gave seems to go to a page with DOWNLOAD for software for the printer. I downloaded it and ran it. It said that the software is installed correctly alreday. It gave me the option of printing a test page and all I got was a faint "Test" but then the black has run out. So whwre do I get the printer scan doctor??

Sorry for that, included a wrong link by mistake.
365 completely make sence for 2 ink cartridges, 500 is an estimation and can highly vary based on the print complecity, as well as the Setup Cartridge which also use some ink to initialize the device.
You may find more about how ink is measured in the followig link:

I am convinced that Im being sold ink cartridges with no ink in them. There is no way I've used even 50 pages with this ink cartridge and those that I did print had very little on them (a handwritten christmas card greeting duplicated about 30 times on an otherwise blank sheet - I've had this cartridge less than a month and it's printed NOTHING, and it's empty.
Hewlett Packard will you please prove to the public that you are selling full ink cartridges by making them transparent. When you buy a jar of peanut butter you can see if it's full.
I AM BEING MIS-SOLD.
