Inkjet refills not working on HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 ‎
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

OfficeJet Pro 8710
Mac El Capitan

I purchased an OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer at Costco. When the starter cartridges were depleted, I purchased 3 new color 952XL cartridges from Costco. When these were depleted, I purchased 3 new cartridges and had the original cartridges refilled at Costco along with an original Black 952XL cartridge.  Now, after a printer firmware update, I try to install one of the refill cartridges and I'm getting an error message.  I bought another HP 952XL Black cartridge as i had to print. When I removed the brand new HP Cartridge and tried the refilled Original cartridge it would still not work. I reinstall the new original HP cartridge and  the printer status log says : Black Cartridge: Previously Used Genuine HP Cartridge Installed. it was not previously used, the previously used and refilled cartridge wont work at all.

I understand this was from a firmware update. Can you supply the download link to update or revert my printer to accept refilled Original HP cartridges please?

@Pichon1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Certain HP printers use cartridges that have security chips or electronic circuitry. Cartridges using a non-HP chip or modified or non-HP circuitry* may not work, and those that work today may not work in the future.

This is a Dynamic security enabled printer. The Firmware Update may prevent supplies with non-HP chips or circuitry from working.

Note: For printers manufactured prior to December 1, 2016 dynamic security will not be enabled by the firmware. Please note that HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP cartridges.

Hi Kumar, Thanks for the reply but it does not answer the problem I am experiencing. These ARE Genuine HP Cartridges, whixh worked perfectly and were depleted. Then refilled at Costco and the printer will not accept them to work. Nothing was done to the chip. The printed used to accept the original HP  refilled cartridge previously. After the firmware update, it no longer would. Can you provide the link to download an update so the printer functions as it did when purchased? HP  has Changed the printer functionality after purchase, making it worse. That can't be ethical and possibly illegal. An analogy: If i buy a car and then a year later the manufacturer sends an "update" that forces me to buy gas only at their gas stations which charge 3 times the price, they have deprived me of the intended use and function of the car after my purchase.  HP is Doing the same thing here.
