HP Envy 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just installed a brand new HP61 black ink cartridge into my printer and it says Ink Cartridge Problem(s) The following ink cartridge must be replaced and shows the sideways two triangles indicating the black cartridge.

I unplugged the printer while it was on from the back and then unplugged it from the wall and waited 15 second before plugging it back in and turning it back on. This did not work.

I then removed the black ink cartridge, unplugged the printer from the back and  and using a q-tip that I had moistened with distilled water gently cleaned both the brand new ink cartridges copper contacts and the contacts in the printer itself. I waited 15 minutes and replaced the ink cartridge and received the same message.

I did try the old cartridge and it worked so I bit the bullet and opened up another brand cartridge and installed that. It is working now, but it sucks because it was a brand new cartridge, you know? Thank you! Leslie

Hello, @inspiredliving

Appreciate all your efforts!

It certainly looks like an issue with the cartridge that you purchased 😞 I'd suggest you try and exchange the cartridge with the store. If having trouble contact HP phone support to get the cartridge replacement options.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Having the same problems after installing new ones, then throwing out the old ones, going thru the cleaning steps and still having problems and will not clear. Thinking about going out and buying new Kodak printer which is cheaper than HP ink cartridges and their ink is cheaper also.
