I am receiving the following error on my two HP LaserJet Pro MFP printers:

PDF Error

Subsystem: PARSER

Error: InternalError 0xc8

Error Information:

Reported by PDL PDF

TrueType font problem: 'cmap' glyph number >= 'post' glyph count

I've power cycled, factory reset, fully removed printers from network, uninstalled and reinstalled printer apps, tried printing from different apps etc. Still failing. Help please!

Thanks for the support.

The symbol sets had changed on both printers, which I suspect was why they both problems printing PDFs.

I logged on each printer via a browser (using the printers IP address) so that I could edit the printers settings.

Under "Print" there is an option for "*PCL*" and "Symbol Set" , set to PC-8 and PDFs printed successfully again.

Latest firmware upgrade must have changed this for some reason.

Have there been any similar reports i.e. the root cause is a firmware update?

Hi @Suths,

Thank you for the response.

The error message you are seeing, "PDF Error Subsystem: PARSER Error: InternalError 0xc8 Error Information: Reported by PDL PDF TrueType font problem: 'cmap' glyph number >= 'post' glyph count," indicates an internal error related to handling TrueType fonts in PDF documents.

To troubleshoot and resolve this issue, you can follow these steps:

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer using the power switch.
  • Wait at least 30 seconds.
  • Turn the printer on and wait for it to initialize.

Check the Use of TrueType Fonts:

  • This error is related to TrueType fonts used in your PDF files. Try modifying your PDF documents to use different fonts or convert the documents to a different format (e.g., TIFF or JPEG) before printing.

Update the Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Check the firmware version on the Printer Configuration Report and update it if a newer version is available.
  • Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

Change Printer Driver Settings:

  • Use the PCL 6 driver and set Print Data Optimization to Optimize for Raster:
    1. Open Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and select Printing Preferences.
    2. Click the Advanced tab, and from the Print Data Optimization drop-down, select Optimize for Raster.
    3. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Enable the Send TrueType as Bitmap option in the PCL 6 Driver:
    1. Open Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and select Printing Preferences.
    2. Click the Advanced tab, and under Printer Features, enable the Send TrueType as Bitmap option.
    3. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Use the PCL 5 driver to print if necessary.

I hope this helps.
