I cannot proceed with a new smart tank printer  setup  because the ink reservoir does not seem  to  recognize the reservoir is full . I have added all 4 colors of ink from the  bottles  that wereincluded in the hp printer box.  Furthermore, i have performed a hard reset by unplugging power cord from wall & printer, pressed power button for 30 secs to remove any residual charge, waited 3 minutes, plugged printer back into wall & printer,  pressed power button, allowed  printer to cycle on.  Each reset has resulted in a "Fill Tanks" message on the display,  a light is on for all 4 ink tank reservoirs.   Additionally,  I also cannot install the 2 ink cartridges also included in the printer  box because the printhead  is docked on the right side of the printer and will  not move to the center.  Instructions say to press a blue button to release the cover  for cartridge installation.  I cannot press the  blue button because it is not visible until the printhead  moves to the center.  I have tried to  manually move it to the center  but nothing has worked so far. Frankly,  I am currently  beyond frustrated because ive never encountered this much trouble with what should be a seemingly simple process & I am  ready to ship the printer back to  HP, cancel my HP All in One Printer  Subscription Service & look into any other brand of printer that suits my very minimal printing needs.  A new printer setup shouldn't be this time consuming and complicated.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Ink Reservoir Issues with HP Smart Tank Printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It appears you are experiencing issues with your HP Smart Tank Printer during the setup process, specifically related to the ink reservoir not recognizing that it is full. Below are some steps and considerations to help resolve this issue:

Verify Correct Bottle Placement:

  • Ensure that each ink bottle has been correctly matched to its respective ink tank. The colors should align precisely.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Open the ink tank cover and verify that there are no obstructions that might prevent the ink from being properly detected.

Re-seat Ink Bottles:

  • Sometimes, the ink bottles may not be seated properly. Carefully reinsert each ink bottle into the corresponding tank nozzle and ensure a snug fit.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • You have already performed a hard reset, which is a useful step. Make sure the printer is connected to a functional power outlet during this process.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I have the same issue. None of the suggestions have allowed the black ink to instal.  I purchased an additional bottle and this has not resolved the issue,   The print heads remain tucked in the corner and therefore the printer cannot be setup.  My only option is to return the product.

For the issue where the printer continues to show the “Fill Tanks” message even after filling all reservoirs:

Please double-check that the ink levels are above the minimum fill line on each tank. If they’re even slightly below, the printer may not detect them as full.

After confirming levels, gently tap the side of the tank to remove any air bubbles near the sensor.

Next, try powering off the printer, wait 60 seconds, and then power it back on without doing a reset. Sometimes this allows the sensor to recalibrate.

As for the printhead being docked and the blue latch inaccessible:

The printhead will only move to the center after ink detection is successful. Since the ink fill is still not registering, the printhead won’t shift yet—which we know is incredibly frustrating.

Please do not try to manually force the printhead; it could damage the printer.

Hope this helps!

I ended up returning the printer & cancelling the HP "All in" subscription for that printer after the HP rep asked for my debit card info so that he could charge me a small fee for returning  the  defective printer even though it was defective when it was shipped  to me from the warehouse AND it was going to be returned  to HP with a prepaid shipping label.  I hope your similar situation has a better outcome than mine.
