Hi all, my jobs get sent to the print queue, I'm immediately told that I'm waiting for the job to complete but then nothing ever actually prints.

I've unplugged the printer, removed from my Mac 'Printers and Scanners' and I've got HP Smart which I *think* keeps drivers etc up to date.

I used to have my Mac on ethernet and my printer on wireless but I've now switched the Mac back to wireless and still no luck.  It's been working perfectly for 4 months but now I seem to have this problem almost daily - occasionally I'll be able to print...if I restart my computer and printer, I'll perhaps have single document success but then the second one will fail.  I don't think communication is the problem because I'm able to scan.

Any ideas please?!  Thanks a lot,

Hi,

When you add the printer using this method, ensure you select the printer model within the Use Drop-down menu.

If you don't see the printer model listed within the Use drop-down menu, but only a Generic PCL driver, download and install your printer's essential Software, when you complete its installation your printer model should be added within the Use drop-down menu:

Please let me know if that helps,

Shlomi

Hi,

Try resetting the printer system and check if you may see any difference.

*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.

Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
Select Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password.
Click OK. The printing system resets.

Now click the plus icon and add the printer, be sure to select AirPrint within the Use drop-down menu and check for any difference.

If the same persists, try following HP Easy Start below to download the latest HP Essential Software and HP Easy Scan for your printer, then check if you may see any difference with an HP driver rather AirPrint:

Thank you!  Still the same problem I'm afraid...I have another computer using the printer though that doesn't experience problems (also a Mac (Mac Mini though)).  It must be a problem between this iMac and the printer.  I'm not sure what else to do...

Let's try adding the printer by TCP/IP and let me know if you may see any difference:

Click the Apple icon and select System Preferences.

Open Printers & Scanners and click the plus sign.

open the IP tab and change the type to HP Jetdirect Socket.

Enter the printer's IP into the address bar and rename its name as you would like.

Note: to locate its IP click the Ethernet or Wireless icon in the top-side of the printer screen, then click the Network or Wireless option (the middle one) and the printer's IP will be shown.

Ensure the printer model is selected within the Use drop-down menu and press the Add button.

May you see any difference using the newly created print queue?

Thank you so much, this has managed to give me consistently problem-free printing and scanning, I really appreciate it.  I have lost some functionality with the printer though via this method - colour, quality etc - some of the settings don't appear.  Do you have any suggestions please?

Thanks a lot!

I was disappointed when I first saw that email/call support wasn't available without a paid-for support package...but the forum has been superb. You have been so helpful Shlomi - everything is now working perfectly. Thanks!
