We have been ongoing with this issue for a few months now. I recently was able to speak with a tech that gave me a solution that seemed to work for a while, but it is no longer working. We have a General Manager that has a LaserJet M404N in his office and I'd say every week or two he is unable to print. The printer will get stuck "Printing" and even if you cancel it and try reprinting nothing works. On both of our laptops the printer log is empty, as if the computer is thinking/acknowledging the print job being completed; but it isn't completed on the printer. The only solution albeit extremely temporary is to restart the printer and it prints normally for a week or so then right back to the same problem. When I worked with the HP Tech he had me power cycle (printer on unplug the power cord hold power button down for 30 seconds), update the drivers and a few other miscellaneous things. That actually kept the printer working for about a month, but about a week ago the problem came back. The driver is HP Universal Printing PCL 6 it is setup for spool printing (tried direct printing to no avail), tried stopping and restarting the spoolers to no avail. I'm hesitant to try anything I've tried in relation to powering down and back up again as it seems everything so far has been a temporary fix. Any help is gravely appreciated!

What firmware version is installed?

How is this device powered? Directly into the wall, how many other devices are on the same circuit. Even these small printers draw an fairly large amount of power during printing and any power starvation can cause issues with the electronics.

It is connected via power strip. It shares the power strip with one other thing, but most of our printers are powered via a power strips and some are bigger than the M404n's and we don't seem to have the issue. A little more information though if it helps we have had two printers in the GMs office both M404n's and both had the same problem. I have the original printer we had in there as my printer now and have no issues with it at all, although I don't print as much as our GM does, but I don't think he is printing anywhere near the printers "limit". I've even ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor with them and get the "Printer is in a busy state" error and I will cancel the document and the error will go away and the Doctor will finish correctly and get to the test print page and send a test page to it but it won't print just will get stuck "Printing".
