I have a laserjet pro M227fdw that stresses me out. I don’t use it much but needs it at times to print and email documents. Lately paper gets stuck all the time both bottom and when trying to scan. Just now tried to scan paper and it told me it got paper stuck which I removed. It still insists to remove jam from document feeder and press ok to clear message. Well I’ve tried open and close everything that can be opened and closed and no matter how many times I press ok button it stills stays on. I unplugged it for 3 minutes to no avail. It also shows me. Picture that the top shelf for loading documents in needs to be closed WHICH IT IS. I’m so stressed. I know warranty expired in 2018 but I really don’t want to get another one

@Annasvenskan,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

  • Power Off: Turn off your printer completely and unplug it. Leave it unplugged for 5 minutes to reset the system.
  • Check for Visible Paper: Double-check that there are no bits of paper stuck anywhere in the paper path or feeder area. Even a small piece can trigger a jam error.
  • Clean the Rollers: Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water and gently wipe the rollers in both the paper tray and the document feeder area. Sometimes, dust or paper debris can cause jams.
  • Open All Compartments: Open the document feeder, tray, and any access panels where paper travels through. Look closely to see if anything is stuck. If you find a piece of paper, carefully remove it.
  • Check the Top Tray: The message about the top shelf could be due to it not being seated properly, even if it looks closed. Open it and gently reseat it to make sure it clicks in place.
  • Reset the Printer: After confirming that no paper is stuck and everything is seated properly, plug the printer back in, power it on, and check for the error again.
  • Try Scanning Again: If it still says there’s a paper jam in the feeder after doing the steps above, try scanning a document again. If the issue continues, try printing a test page from the computer to check if it’s related to scanning or the overall printer.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
