I previously posted this in another thread - 03-09-2020 02:10 PM
I can add some more information
It is clearly a printed line on an otherwise beautiful print.
I ran multiple copies of a word document - short 1 page form and it printed on the left of copies 2 through 12, I had noticed this before. This printer was purchased and installed in the last two weeks so if I'm going to return it will go back to the store for a different brand - so please tell me there is an answer. I had a previous version of this printer that I ran for 4 years with no problems.
Then I tried doing research and got to the recommendation below to trouble shoot. I did some of the steps and decided to print the list so I could keep track of what I was doing. It printed the line on right side of page 3, the left side of page 4, the right side of page 9 and not any place else on the 11 pages of duplex print.
So before I run through more of the steps for what seems to be a print quality solution I would like more guidance.

Since this does not happen while copying, this is a driver issue.
Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Does this happen while copying from the printer?
Does this only happen with a word document or all applications you print from?
Use the automated tool to clean the ink cartridges.
NOTE:To avoid issues that require cleaning, always turn the printer off with the Power button.
-
On the control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup
icon.
-
Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Maintenance.
-
Touch Clean Cartridges, and then touch Continue.
A Print Quality Diagnostic page prints.
-
Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic page.
-
If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.
NOTE:
If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.
-
If the issue persists, please perform the remaining steps from this document: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-photo-7800-all-in-one-printer-series/9073159/model/9073...

I don't recall the line problem occurring during a copy process. I just copied the same page 3 times and didn't have the problem
I did get a random line down the center of a scan I did yesterday, have not tried to figure that out - lighter line.
Printing - the problem has occurred in almost all multi page prints. It is a dark line about 1/4 inch from the edge
- Single page word document printed multiple copies - first page was clean, subsequent pages had line 1/4 in down the left side of every page.
- Duplex print of multi page wprd dpcument - the line appears on one page part way through - left side
- 2 page PDF print - printed on page one left side, but not page 2 - this was a vendor order form downloaded from a site and I think printed directly from Chrome
- PDF 1099's from broker web site, saved and printed from ADOBE app - printed on about 2/3 of the pages - multiple documents with varying numbers of pages. Some duplex printed.
- Printed the HP document on fixing this problem - Print from web page using Chrome in duplex mode - line on pages 3 (right side),4 (left side), and 9 (right side) - rest of pages ok. Small black smudge mark in the upper right corner of every page except page 1. Did this back when I first reported the problem and tried to do all the steps. Just printed again today 3/25 with exactly the same result. Printed line down pages 3,4, and 9. And smudge mark. No little smudges on the other documents noted above.
I did run the HP Print and Scan Doctor yesterday because the print queue was full of junk I don't remember printing and I couldn't clear from the windows printer screen. It did fix that, it also said it found a port error. But the line problem continues.

And I just found one more example as I was cleaning up my desk.
2 page MS word document that I had printed twice. First time was not duplex - line on left of page 1. Second was a duplex print of same document - line on the right side of page 1. In both cases, page 2 (which printed first) was clean.

I think this worked. Still have not done a lot of printing. Give me a couple more days to validate
When I did the steps I found artifacts of the old HP Envy 7660 that I also removed. I had deleted the printer and the app at some point, but it obviously wasn’t a complete job using Windows 10. Your instructions were easy to follow.
thankyou
