My HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw is stuck on the HP energy star screen.
When I try to reset it,it displays permanent storage init. But nothing happens from there.
I can see the printer on my PC via WiFi and find it on my phone with the HP smart app. Can select it and send documents but nothing is printing.

Hi @Moomien,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw is experiencing a firmware or hardware issue since it's stuck on the "HP EnergyStar" screen. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Power Cycle (Hard Reset):
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.
- Turn the printer on and check if it proceeds past the "HP EnergyStar" screen.
Check for Firmware Update (via USB):
- Since you can see the printer on your PC and phone, try updating the firmware if the printer is not fully booting.
- Download the latest firmware for your printer from the HP support site.
- Connect your printer to your PC using a USB cable (since the printer might not process over Wi-Fi while it's stuck).
- Install the firmware through the printer’s software update utility.
Perform a Cold Reset (Factory Reset):
If the problem persists, you may need to perform a cold reset.
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Right Arrow and the Cancel button together.
- While holding these buttons, turn the printer back on.
- Release the buttons when the printer shows “Permanent Storage Init”.
- The printer should begin initializing and reset to factory settings.
Note: This will erase all network settings, so you will need to reconnect the printer to your network afterward.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
