HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I’m a bit embarrassed trying to join the community when I, in fact, have a problem. I would rather be the one contributing with something like; “I’ve got across a brilliant solution for everyone’s 802.1X Authentication, SNMP, BOOTP/DHCPv4 Configuration, and ICC problems”.

Sorry to say; I'm not quite there.

So:

I’ve got the HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdw (D05F67), purchased two weeks ago.
I’m totally satisfied with everything, (Expecting the photo print quality to be.... - well, I didn’t expect much. I already have an Epson 4800, a large format printer, and a smaller Canon inkjet, so…. No surprise, and no regrets on that matter)

I’m on a Mac Mini, Mojave 10.14.6. I’ve been struggling a bit with setting it up for remote printing. I mean, from a totally other location. I'm still not there. I can actually live with that, but, to a lesser extent, not being able to print from the Mac's e-post-client "Mail".

I had a 100 or so, print jobs (sheets) one previous night, and everything went smoothly. Until number 45 of the task. That's when I tried to print out an order, received on Mail. I had the Error 49-issue, time and again, Resetted the printer and I did everything, expected. To no use. And when I finally suspected "Mail" was the problem, I quit it, did a restart on the printer, and everything went as it should.

I SUSPECT it has something to do with my tries to get my e-post-client to be the link between the MFP M283fdw and the outer world...

But, I don't know. I think you do!

@Doghus, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I see that you are not able to print from Apple Mail.

  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
  • If the issue is only while printing from one app, it could be an application-specific issue.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Also, follow the steps mentioned in this document - 49 Error Displays On the Control Panel

You may refer to this document o resolve print quality issues - Fixing Poor Print Quality

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Thank you, for replying, really!

"Have you tried printing different types of documents":

Yes. And as I said; The problem is narrowed down to Mail. I made a PDF of the orders received on Mail, and printed them out with no problems, from Acrobat.

"If the issue is only while printing from one app, it could be an application-specific issue."

Exactly what I suggested in the post; “I SUSPECT it has something to do with my tries to get my e-post-client (That is; “email-client”) to be the link between the MFP M283fdw and the outer world.”

@Doghus, thank you for the confirmation.

In this case, I suggest you contact Apple Support for assistance.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I've given up on the Mail-problem. No help, neither with Apple, nor with HP.

But to a totally different matter, what about the "Can't select the Best Quality" in the Air Print dialogue box. The same goes for my printer (LaserJet MFP M283fdw)  as for the customers in this thread, from 2020 (!)

 Really? Still no solution?
