Hello,
I bought this printer in April of 2020 and one day in early May 2021, the printer stopped printing. Here are the symptoms:
1. Display does not turn on, at all - no dots no nothing
2. I can connect to printer over Wifi using my Macbook. HP Utility shows "Communication error"
3. Print queue never clears
Some of the troubleshooting steps I have taken:
1. Found on HP forum to disconnect power cable and wait for certain amount of time and press the power button for 30 seconds. Didnt change anything.
2. Found a troubleshooting doc for the printer. Asked to open and shut the front door 5 times. That printed the test page it was supposed to.
3. Tried to print test pages from computer but nothing printed.
Based on troubleshooting doc, it could be the formatter board or the low voltage power supply. This is a $400 printer from last year (and $600 now!). Unfortunately I am just outside of my warranty now. Any ideas here on what I can do? Too expensive to just chuck away. But it looks like it is expensive to fix as well?
Thank you.

Based on your observations:
1. you can print the engine test which indicates that the print engine is fine, ruling out the power supply. (engine test= opening and closing front door.)
2. That you cannot connect to the printer over any communication cable would indicate that the formatter is bad. Does the screen come on at all when first powered up? If not, that would also suggest formatter.
