Hi
My hp 6700 printer indicated it needed a magenta ink cartridge. Other three all reported ink levels over 50%. Inserted new ink cartridge magenta and printer now reports it has no ink cartridges at all? And it's got a problem. Take cartridge out and printer shows the other three ink cartridges and ink levels.
Assumed bad cartridge so another new one obtained and inserted. Same result.
Old empty magenta cartridge put back in and same result.
So I now have a printer that has ink in the cartridges that can't print because it's short of one cartridge. If the correct cartridge is inserted it's telling itself I'm empty no cartridges. So a previously reasonable printer is now a paper weight.
Hp support tell me to get another magenta cartridge as the printer can't print without all four cartridges! When told be there tried that they are stumped. Anyone got any suggestions?
I'm going to search the loft for the old canon bj10 printer to at least print.

@Davebee2, Welcome to HP Support Community!
If you have already performed the steps from the document HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.
Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
Hope this helps!

Hi
Hp support suggest updating firmware, buy another cartridge or send it back and it might be repaired but cost unknown.
Printer firmware is up to date. Buying a further cartridge seems a waste of money as does sending for repair when a cost estimates not available. Hence paperweight. Buying a different print appears a more cost effective solution.
A old canon bj10 has been recovered and printed straight away. Its black only but it works for letters/invoices etc. So according to hp support new printer.
If only the printer would work with just the black cartridge?

Unfortunately, the printer won't work with single-cartridge mode.
As we've reached the end of the line, you can either take it to the nearby service center or contact the support team.
Thanks for understanding!
