I have the same issue with the new HP Cyan inkjet cartridge I installed in my HP OfficeJet 8600 printer. I have never had an issue replacing the cartridges. I purchased a new set of ink cartridges through Amazon. When they arrived, I installed them and for the first time in years, I received a print failure error. I tried several recommended solutions I found online but none worked. I returned the cartridges and replaced them with a new set. The new set generated the same error message. It is only when I remove the Cyan cartridge that I am able to get beyond the error screen and see the screen indicating the Cyan cartridge is missing.
What has HP done to create this problem? They've taken a perfectly good working printer and turned it into a paperweight.
HP, what is the solution to this problem?

Thanks, Stephen Verte! I purchased a new printhead part CR322A (for US Pro 8600 printer) at CDS for $149.99. Installed it with starter cartridges and printer works fine now. But I have not checked yet if the new Cyan cartridge that gave me the "printer error" message with the original printer head will work in the new one...

I have the same problem, new yellow cartridge says "PrinterFailure", put the depleted one back in and it comes up fine. I tried replacing all 3 to the new set and that didn't work. With the depleted set in place I tried cleaning the printhead (setup>tools submenu). No help. Trying the align the printhead says you must replace depleted cartridge to resume printing.
I guess I'm also left with the solution described in this thread to pay the money for a new printhead, or just eat the cost of the ink and get a new printer.

<<I’m experiencing the same issue as others have reported. I’d like to hear if anyone who bought a new printhead have tried it with the ink cartridges that weren’t cooperating.>>
Sorry. I cannot help. I'm still using the "Starter" set" which came with the new printhead. When these are depleted, I'll try the cheap alternative cartridges which I used to use in the old printhead

When i installed the new printhead I used the old non-HP cartridges. The black one was rejected instantly so I removed it and used the brand new 'set up' cartridge that was included in the box with the new printhead. This was also rejected with the message that the printer was already set up, so the 'set up' cartridges couldn't be used! That was a waste of money getting the printhead with additional cartridges!
I decided to put a new non-HP black cartridge in and this worked as it should.
I've kept the old (full-ish) cartridge just in case there's a way to use it in future.
I think that there might be a way of accessing the printer settings to allow non-HP cartridges to be used, but I'll look at that at another time perhaps.

have the same issue with the new HP 951 Cyan inkjet cartridge I installed in my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer. With the new Cyan cartridge in, it won't get away from the Printer Failure message. With the old cartridge in, it won't continue printing (even in Grayscale) and gives a cartridge depleted message.
