@ GriffinM - I had the same results, except I replaced the depleted black ink cartridge with a brand new HP cartridge. I even returned the ink and bought a different new cartridge......same Printer Failure message. The only difference I see, is the number on the front of the cartridge is slightly different. The old cartridge says CN045A, while both of the new ones I bought say CN045AN. However, the HP website says that CN045AN is supposed to work.

I had the same problem with my 10 year old HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. The yellow cartridge became depleted; I replaced it with a new one and the "printer error" message appeared and then the printer stopped working. I replaced the yellow again ... but to no avail. I looked on YouTube for help and tried the aluminium foil fix (didn't work - don't bother). Then I ordered a printhead cleaning kit but that made things worse.
So I bought a new original HP CR324A Printhead for £130 (which includes a "starter" ink kit) and my cherished 8600 is now working again perfectly. Maybe it would have made better economic sense to have junked the 8600 and buy a new printer but this is such a solid capable workhorse that I was loathe to replace it.

Hi
I bought the printhead from Cartridge People for £140 (delivery included).
Very good customer service and I received it the next day

I have an old, depleted Cyan cartridge that consistently works, while the new C cartridge (HP brand purchased from Staples) will not. The old cartridge (originally installed in May 2024) has the CN046AN part number.
