HP DeskJet 2548
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently upgraded to a new Linksys E2500V4 dual band WiFi router and now my printer won't connect via WiFi. The new router has a 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz band and of my devices at home are connected to the 2.4 band, including my printer. However, my HP DeskJet 2548 will not join my WiFi network. I have tried everything I can think of including uninstalling & reinstalling the printer. I have gone onto HP support online and tried a number of solutions i found including downloading the HP Smart app. I have even Googled my problem & nothing has solved the issue. The blue light next to the WiFi button continues to blink and I have a blinking exclamation point next to the WiFi icon on the little digital display. Can anyone give me any insight as to what the problem could be? Is it possible the printer itself is broken? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @carriekng

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are not able to connect the printer to your wireless network. I'd be happy to assist you.

On the printer's control panel, press the Wireless button  and the Information button  at the same time.

Both a Wireless Network Test Report and a Network Configuration Page print.

Check if wireless ON and wireless working say PASS.

Restart the wireless router, the printer, and the PC

Use WPS to connect the printer to your wireless network.

  1. Locate the WPS button on your router, but do not press it yet.

If your router does not support WPS, skip to the next step to connect the printer with the HP Smart app.

  2. Turn on the printer. If the printer is in sleep mode, press the Cancel button on the control panel.

  3. On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button  for at least 3 seconds or until the wireless light starts to flash.

  4. On the router, press and hold the WPS button for 3 to 5 seconds or until it shows that the WPS connection process has started.

NOTE: The printer stops searching for a WPS connection two minutes after the wireless button is pressed. If you were unable to press the WPS button within that timeframe, attempt these steps again.

Once the printer connects to the wireless network, the blue Wireless light on the control panel turns on solid.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

My printer does not have an information button  to press for a wifi report. Here's a picture of the control panel on my printer.

@carriekng, thank you for the response.

Did you try the WPS method to connect the printer to the wireless network?

Keep me posted.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. Things have been quite hectic with the current state of things. I have tried the WPS method more that once and it did not resolve the issue. I have multiple solutions that I have found between various internet blogs, troubleshooting guides, and information I've found on the HP website. Nothing has resolved the problem. I have pretty much come to the conclusion that it has to be a hardware problem with the printer itself.

To check if this is a hardware issue with the printer, you may look into the wireless test report.

Check if Wireless and wireless radio say PASS. If it says FAIL, it means it is a hardware failure with the wireless card in the printer.

Keep me posted.
