My HP Deskjet F4180 All-in-One Printer stopped printing emails and some other items. I started getting a printer error in a box window on the computer screen and it wouldn't print any thing unless I restarted the computer. Tried following a set of instructions that might cure the problem which was to delete the printer and let the computer recognize the device again but then wouldn't print emails and some other things. I have Windows 10 on the computer. Need help to solve the problem.

Set up a USB printer connected with a built-in driver (Windows)
When you connect the printer USB cable, Windows automatically installs and adds your printer to provide basic printing functionality.
-
Make sure there is an open USB port available directly on your computer. If you use a USB hub or docking station, the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.
-
Connect the printer USB cable to the computer.
-
If a 'Found new hardware message displays, follow any prompts to install the driver, and then send a print job to confirm the connection.
-
If the printer connection or print job fails, continue with these steps.
-
-
Search for and open Printers & scanners.
-
Click Add a printer or scanner.
-
If your printer is in the list, select it, click Add device, and then follow the prompts to install the driver.
-
If you printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.
-
-
Click The printer that I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
-
Click Next, select Use an existing port, select (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB) from the drop-down menu, and then click Next.
-
If prompted, click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to finish updating.
-
Under Manufacturer, select HP or Hewlett Packard, and then select the name of your printer.
-
Click Next, and then follow the prompts to install the driver.
-
Disconnect then reconnect the USB cable to complete the printer setup.

Hi @Northward,
I'd like to help!
To assist better-
1) Are you able to make a copy using the printer?
2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or device?
Meanwhile, try the below suggestions-
Try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity
Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
- Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
- If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
- If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
- If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.
You can print using Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:
• Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add a printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.
• When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.
• Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.
Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.
Note: If the printer is not found in the list, try Deskjet 990c or Deskjet 6980 to install the printer as these are the generic printer drivers.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Jay G24- Thank you for the reply!
I'm able to make print some things and not others such as emails but not limited to just email. I can make a copy by putting a page on the screen and push the black button.
If by application you mean Windows 10, thats what I have.
I'll try the other suggestions, but may need help with some of it.
Thank You!

I've been having trouble logging on this site for some reason. Very frustrating! If you've sent me PM's I haven't gotten them.
Where do I look for the application? I don't want to leave this page right now to look myself.
I tried downloading the Print and Scan doctor but really didn't seem to do anything. If Tray App is part of that it tries to load but says it can't because its on a network resource that is unavailable.
The first suggestion to try with the Printer firmware link wasn't applicable since the printer apparently doesn't have firmware so that option can't be used- at least as I understand it.
I can try anything else that might solve the problem.
Thank you for the help!
