HP Envy 4520
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My HP Envy 4520 recently started printing only in black and white. I (and a computer technician) have tried all of the suggestions that were posted for this issue with no success. Totally new drivers, checked for a firmware update, etc. etc. for hours. My print properties box doesn't even show a color or grayscale option. Also when I select a color photo from my pictures folder and right click to print it, the preview image is also in black and white.

Hello,

I hope you have installed the printers full featured sofware. If you haven't done, below is the URL from where you can download and install the same .https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920

Assuming the Full Featured software is installed , you may try the below steps..

Open the  Control Panel.
on top Right corner locate "View by" drop down and select "Samll icons"
Click on Color Management.
Click Devices and select your printer.
Check "Use my settings for this device" and click OK.

Now try printing .

If issue still persists, try the below steps..

If printer is connected using USB perform the below steps.
go to Control Panel > Devices and Printer > Add a Printer.
in the window displayed, select "Add a local printer with manual settings", and then click NEXT
under "Use an existing port" drop down box "USB001 (Virtual USB Port for USB)" and then click NEXT.
In the next window under "Manufacturer" select HP, and then from right pane, select "HP Envy 4520" and click NEXT.
And then follow the on screen instructions to complete the process.
Now open the document you want to print, under PRINT dropdown select the printer that was installed using the above steps. And now click the PRINT button to start to print

If printer is connected using Wireless perform the below steps.
goto Control Panel > Devices and Printer > Add a Printer.
in the window displayed, select "Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname" and then click NEXT
Select "Create a new port - "Standard TCP/IP port" and then click NEXT
Now type in the printer's IP address under "Hostname or IP address" box, then click on the NEXT button. "Detecting TCP/IP" would start.
After which click the NEXT button and then in the next window under "Manufacturer" select HP, and then from right pane, select "HP Envy 4520" and click NEXT.
And then follow the on screen instructions to complete the process.
Now open the document you want to print, under PRINT dropdown select the printer that was installed using the above steps. And now click the PRINT button to start to print

The first step corrected the problem when my printer was hooked up via USB to my PC, but not as network. The second solution solved it in a network setting. Thanks a lot. I tried both solutions on my laptop which had not been able to communicate with my printer for quite a while, saying it was offline when it showed ready to print on the printer and all network settings were OK. I was able to finally get the laptop to send a print to the printer, but alas, it is only in black and white. Solving two out of three problems is pretty great, but if you have any suggestions to get my laptop to print in color to the wireless printer, I would love to hear them.

Thankfully,

Bradyje
