MY new HP Deskjet was only printing in black and white no matter what! No mapper what app or anything. I was baffled. I came onto these forums and they suggested things like resetting, updating drivers... blah blah blah. They mainly suggested that I make sure the "black and white" or "grayscale" was not selected in the printer properties when I was printing. Thing is, there were no options at all! When I selected to print from my "HP Deskjet 2852e" there was not an option to choose color or black and white ANYWHERE! I was literally losing my mind! I then remembered that months ago, before my old printer went bad, I had ran out of color ink on it. So I went into those printer properties at that time and changed it to black and white, to make my prints come out better. So , remembering this, when I selected "print" then I went in and chose my OLD printer from the drop down menu, then once those properties came up, I saw where I could select color or black and white, so I selected COLOR! I then went back to the drop down menu and selected my new HP printer, the options of color or not went away of course, but it somehow saved it from my old printeres properties! Because it worked! My new printer now prints in color! I do not know how this fixed ite, but it did. I hope this is coherent, I was litereally losing my cool trying to figure this out. Now that I have figured it out, I had to come on here and share it with you all! to help save you from the stress I went through!

Hi @MamaWren,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for sharing your experience and solution! It sounds like you found a clever workaround to resolve the issue with your HP Deskjet 2852e only printing in black and white. Sometimes, printer settings and driver issues can be tricky, and it's great that you were able to resolve it. Your solution is a good reminder that settings from a previous printer can sometimes influence or affect the settings of a new printer if they are not properly reset or updated.
To Summarize and Enhance Your Solution:
Update Printer Drivers and Software:
- Ensure you have the latest drivers and software for your new HP Deskjet 2852e. Visit the HP Support website to download the most recent versions.
Check Printer Properties:
- When printing, make sure to select your current printer from the dropdown menu and then access the properties or preferences to check if color printing is enabled.
Reset Printer Settings:
- If you encounter similar issues in the future, try resetting the printer settings to default. This can often resolve unexpected behavior.
Reinstall Printer:
- Uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers to ensure that any old settings or configurations are not carried over.
Consult Printer Manual:
- Refer to the printer’s user manual for specific troubleshooting steps and settings information.
For Future Reference:
Color Printing Options:
- Always check the print dialog box for color options before printing. Sometimes, the color settings might be hidden under advanced settings or preferences.
Printer Preferences:
- Access printer preferences through the control panel or printer settings on your computer to adjust default printing option
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
