I got my printer in March 2017 and also got HP Instant Ink. I love it..until my printer stopped printing color about 2 months ago. I can print a test page, and it will print color, but anything I print from my computer (I have been using Chrome) won't print color. And yes, I tell the print page to print color. Nothing. I am at a loss and have no idea what to check anymore. Please help! Thanks!

Hey @mollylujan,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums my name is Andrea and I will be happy to help you.
When you go to print and the print queue box that opens ( this is the box that allows you to make changes and how many print copies you want printed ) under Color Options beside Color is Greyscale chosen? Also is there a mark beside Black Ink Only?
If so remove the mark from beside Black Ink Only and choose an option under color that isn't Greyscale.
If these options are not chosen then I would suggest you uninstall the printer's driver and reinstall it.
Let me know if this does not resolve your issue, I will watch for your reply.
Thanks,
Andrea

I am having the same problem and it doesn't matter whether I'm printing from Word or IE or printing the test page. I reinstalled the drivers and that did not work either. Under advanced printer setup, there aren't any options showing related to color defaults. It used to print in color until a few months ago. Also, the print queue box does not have options for grayscale or black ink only. It is an HP3830 printer and Dell laptop.

Everything mentioned in the above posts is my exact same issue and I can’t resolve the problem. Color prints on test pages, cartridges clean, printhead smear tested, Instant Ink subscribed, not low on ink, nothing checked for greyscale. I really don’t want to uninstall the printer since it sounds like that doesn’t solve the issue; I have a reason why uninstalling doesn’t appeal to me as it pertains to work (just trust me- it would be a headache). Has anyone had success fixing this problem? Just a few months ago, I could print in color no problem!!!!!! Envy5540..

I was finally able to get mine working! Here are the steps I followed which I found on this other HP page: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/Printer-changes-back-to-monochrome-and-won-t-print-in-...
Delete the driver at the root level and retry:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Then, Click here to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it.
If the issue persists, please go ahead and install the windows built-in drivers:
If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.
NOTE:
Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.
See the Frequently asked questions in this document for additional information, including how to scan using this driver.
