HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e All-in-One Printer

Hello,

My HP Pro 8139e continues to say it's out of paper and there's plenty in it. I have to open and close the drawer to print, which is a hassle. Help!

Hi @Sharonviz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e is having trouble detecting the paper in the tray. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.

Check Paper Alignment:

  • Ensure the paper in the tray is properly aligned. If it's skewed or not placed properly, the sensor might not detect it. Make sure the paper is stacked evenly and not too high.

Clean the Paper Sensor:

  • Sometimes, dust or paper residue can interfere with the sensor that detects paper. Clean the paper sensor area gently with a soft, dry cloth. Refer to the printer’s manual for guidance on where the sensor is located.

Check Paper Type and Size Settings:

  • Ensure that the correct paper size is selected in the printer settings. If the printer is set to a different paper size than what's in the tray, it might think the tray is empty.
  • Also, make sure you are using the correct type of paper for the tray.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • An outdated firmware version might cause sensor issues. Check for updates via the HP Smart app or the printer’s web interface.

Inspect the Paper Tray:

  • Sometimes, the paper tray may not be fully inserted or there could be debris blocking the sensor. Remove the tray, check for any obstructions, and reinsert it firmly.

Restart the Printer:

  • Power off the printer, unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and power it up. This can sometimes reset the sensors and clear any glitches.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
