I am stuck in the new printer setup phase. After running through the start up questions, and I opened the lid to load the ink cartridges and the print head did not move. I have run through several reset processes ... unplug the printer. Wait 60 seconds and plug it back in. Run through the setup ... unplug the printer .... cont.
This printer does not seem to want any cartriages.

Hey JohnTT,
Sometimes these printers will come with packaging that holds the printhead all the way to the right in the service station. This is to prevent product damage during shipping. Do you see any orange plastic pieces that may be holding it in place or blue tape?
As well, have you tried moving the carriage from the right by hand? Can it be moved or is it locked in position?
If the printer still will not release the print carriage after power cycles and attempting to move by hand, then I would advise either taking the product back and swapping at the retailer of purchase or calling HP Tech Support to see about a replacement. The phone number for US/Canada residents is 1-800-474-6836. If you are not in this region, then click here.
Hope this helps.

More information.
After running through the time/date setup, the printer complains that the "Cartriages appear to be missing", but the print head never moves at all. It is stuck the far right position ... empty.

Hi Jason,
From what I could see, there doesn't seem to be anything blocking it. The print head wiggles a little bit, but it will not move to the left even with quite a bit of pressure.
I contacted HP support and they walked me through a couple of reset routines, but the print head made no effort to move by itself.
After an hour or two of chat, the HP tech decided the printer was broken and they would send me a replacement printer.
Thanks for the reply.

I have the same stuck print head problem. HP is taking forever to get back to me. I've unplugged and plugged it back in 100 times. It will not budge. This is not a new printer, so no packaging is in the way.
