I bought 3 Tesco HP301 compatible black cartridges last December and installed one of them. This lasted until May. I replaced it with another one. This didn't print out at all. I took it back to Tesco and they gave me a refund as they had no more in stock. I then put the final cartridge out of the three in. This lasted a month. There has been no discernible difference in my printing output. I have just bought another HP compatible 301cartridge from Wilkos. I have just installed this and it is not printing at all. I have looked at various links, checked the printer spool (which is OK). When I print a test page there is only red parts, no black (I don't use the colour cartridge and this is low). I have seen other posts which suggest the colour cartridge needs to be at an acceptable level for the black to print, but up until May I was printing OK only using black and the colour level would not have changed. Any help welcome. Thanks.

Hi @PawelB
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.
To better assist you -
1) Does the copy print out the same way?
2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or devices?
While you respond to that, let's print a Print Quality Diagnostic page -
-
Load clean, white U.S. Letter or A4 paper in the input tray, if necessary.
-
Touch and hold the Power button (
), and then press the Cancel button (
).
-
Let go of the Cancel button and then the Power button. The test page prints.
Post the Print Quality Diagnostic page here so we can help you further.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Jay, thanks for your reply. Neither of the ink low level lights are on.. If I make a copy of a colour document the copy will print out in colour but not the black. Same for a test print (colour, but no black). As stated before, of the three black cartridges purchased from Tesco, the first one printed OK for 5 months, the second did not print at all and the third printed for a month. There was no discernible change in printing output in this time, The new black cartridge from Wilkos does not print out at all, either. I'm at a loss of what to do. Thanks.

I've cleaned the cartridge(s) although it's now happened on two different cartridges from two different shops, which makes me think it cannot be the cartridges. The fact they are not genuine HP cartridges should make no difference as these are the ones I've always used for years (and the last one out of the three from Tesco worked OK for a month). I ran the firmware and it told me everything was OK. As I said, when I do a copy of a colour pamphlet the copy comes out with the colour and not the black. I'm at a loss as to what to do next now and I'm considering getting a new printer (which shouldn't be the answer as I have/had a working printer). Thanks again for persisting in trying to get a solution.
