I figured it out and it's not so hard.  First click on the pic you want.  On the right hand side you'll see a number of options such as fit, custom, etc.  At the bottom right click on print.  That brings up another menu.  Click on Layout.  Then a submenu comes down.  Click on Paper Type/Quality.  Then another submenu and print from phototray is one of them.  Hope this helps.

I cannot print to the photo tray and I've made the changes in 'printing preferences' and 'properties'. Do I need to download any updates? I looks like I've got everything set up correctly for printing.

Originally, printer would make noise, photo tray would move forward, more noise, move backward and generate eror message that paper was missing.  I was able to print by lifting smoke gray cover and pushing paper stack forward with my finger.  Then that worked for the first piece, but subsequent pieces again - no paper.  Finally, HP tech support - Remove ?? the huge plastic rear turn-her-over mechanism.  Clean all rollers  also internal rollers.   I used q-tip, cloth 90% iso-propyl alcohon (drug-store)..  Been working fine for over 6 months.  It's these rubber rollers that "grip" "pick-up" paper and feed it.  Good Luck  Tocar

Thanks for the response. Does anyone from HP have any comments on photos not printing from the photo tray even when all printer settings are set up correctly to use the tray?

I' ve set the printer settings for photo tray, advanced HP photo paper, and 5"x7", emptied the Main tray, but I still get the same message that the Main Tray is empty.  I've unplugged and replugged the power cord, with no luck. Please help!

Alas this is not available using HPLIP!

My Photosmart 7520 is just a load of junk when it comes to photographs.

Reading all the problems it has will ensure I return to Canon for my next printer. Canon linux drivers just work.

Have set it t0 4x6, photo paper, phototray, photo quality print and it keeps telling me my paper is not 4x6.

I am now measuring it.

Lanscape width is 6 inches exactly

Lanscape height is 4 inches exactly

The solution of having the printer find the photo tray involves both the print setting for the photo to choose the size correctly and the Printer Properties which have to be set so that the Main tray is "unavailable" and the Photo tray is selected with the correct size paper. I also went to the printer itself and changed the the Settings under Preferences at Printer Tray Select to Select Photo tray. I also had to gently push the tray in slightly as the print process was occuring. Some how that seemed like the final step that got the whole process to work.

It is a real hassel if you are only going to print one photo to go through this process and then have to reset everything back to print from the main tray. I would not call this a "photosmart solution". It really should be simpler.

Thanks,
