HP Officejet 5255
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased a new Officejet 5255. I have installed all of the drivers and have verified that the software is up to date. My printer is connected to the internet. I have turned on the sharing feature with my new HP laptop but cannot print a simple word document, though I can print a test page. There are no error codes, so I am at loss as to what to do.

Hi! @lilyinmyvalley,

Are you able to print from a different application?

It sounds like an application specific issue.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Microsoft office application and try printing again and check if it works.

However, you can try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

Press the "Windows logo key" + "r" to get “Run" - Type "spool" and press ok.

Right-click on "PRINTERS" - Select "Properties"

Select "Security" tab. You will find few entries like "Administrators" and "users", click on "Edit" and give "Full permission" to all the entries. Save / apply the settings.

Go to "Devices and printers", right-click on the new printer that you installed and select "Printer properties".

Select "Security" tab. You will find few entries like "Administrators" and "users", click on "Edit" and give "Full permission" to all the entries. Save / apply the settings.

Restart your computer and then try to print.

Perform a power reset.

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Also, try uninstalling the printer drivers from root level and install the full feature printer software.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Close Devices and Printers.

Update the full feature printer software using this link. Click Here

Lastly, try running HP print and scan doctor on the PC.

Refer this article to know more information about using HP print and scan doctor.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂
